My boyfriend of over 2 years has his own apartment about an hour away from me and I visit him every Saturday. He has a cat named Leia and she is very VERY playful. His apartment has 2 rooms but the extra bedroom he uses as an office. I am planning on going and spending Thanksgiving break with him and would have to take Jude with me..I brought to his attention that we would have to keep him and Leia separated because they are both not use to other animals..and the room is carpeted so he said no..that the cage would be kept in the living room where there is hard floor and no possible peeing on carpet issues..I understand that he doesn’t want my bunny to ruin the carpet because he would have to pay for it..but I can’t just leave him out there with the cat so I said if Jude can’t stay secluded from the cat that I couldn’t stay with him over the break..he got upset and because he doesn’t see the importance that bonding should be a long slow process not just all of a sudden throwing them together and hoping they love each other.  He thinks that we can just put them in the same room and all of a sudden they’re best friends which most of the time is NOT the case..advice?

Dealing with people is a lot harder than dealing with animals, in my opinion. If you can’t reassure him about the bunny pee either not happening, or that it is easy to clean, is there any way that you could spring for something to temporarily cover the carpet? Either plastic, some throw rugs, or some blankets? Being a cat owner myself I am assuming that he’s not going to want to restrict his cats access to most of the home, but may make an exception for something that is bunny proofed and not too restrictive on his fur-baby. I would definitely be ready to have your bunny in a cage at night during the visit so that the cat doesn’t get too curious.

I guess I could get some throw blankets but Jude has never peed outside his litter box..even right when I got him. He understood right away that he shouldn’t pee outside of cage or litter box when he’s in his cage. I could cover it with a tarp or something but I don’t think he would want me to since it’s his office and would be ‘in the way’ I even explained to him that he could stay in his cage whenever he’s in the room but when I let him out I could shoo him out of the room just as a precaution and he didn’t respond..the only carpeted rooms are the bedrooms..so that would work but he just idk..
