        Hi everyone,

Our 4.5 month old Flemish broke two bones in his foot last Wednesday night, with the most epic clumsy dive out of his litter box that I have ever seen. He literally tried to hop out, caught the lip, and faceplanted. Anyhow, he put in a splint on Thursday. It looked like it may have slipped a tiny bit yesterday, but today it’s noticeable– I can clearly see his heel, whereas before, the whole foot was wrapped nicely. I think he’s been working on the “no chew” wrap a little a time.

My question is this: I have an appointment with his bunny-savvy vet tomorrow morning at 8 am. Do you think it will be ok to wait until then to have them check his splint? My only other option is the less rabbit-savvy emergency clinic. Since he was anesthetized for the splint to be put on in the first place, I don’t love that option since they’re much more cat/dog people, and of course being an emergency clinic, it is extremely expensive. By the same token, I don’t want an incorrectly positioned splint to harm him further!

Has hasn’t shown any changes in mobility, appetite, or bathroom habits.. he’s currently sprawled out like a frog, vs. the in-pain bunny loaf. To be on the safer side, I did block off half of his pen to reduce the amount of hopping around he does, but if anything, I swear he’s hopping around MORE now. I really don’t want to restrict him further as I think he’d just get really stressed by it– he’s a baby and wants to move!

Sorry none of us got on sooner, thought that was a tough one. Sounds like you were doing all the right things, though. What a way to start out with your new bunny, though those Flemmies sure sound like they can give you a run for your money! I thought my Giant Chinchilla was a busy boy, but a Foemmie might do me in. I sure hope your bun doesn’t need to be reanesthetized

Thanks for the reply! As an update, all turned out well– we kept an eye on it throughout the day to make sure it didn’t slip any further. Luckily it was just a matter of a re-wrap. It’s now wrapped a little higher up his hind leg, so it looks like a boot. He’s pretty mad that he can’t lay in full-on-frog position, anymore, but he’s managing!
