Alright so I’m a new bunny owner! And super excited to be so! We bought our little guy already a year old. Hes a house bunny. Sooo my question is should i buy his vegetables from a regular grocery store? Maybe this is kind of a dumb question but i just want to make sure. I know i should do organic. Anyway just been doing tons of research wanting to know every way to make my bunny happy and healthy. Soo any tips for this new bunny owner would also be appreciated. TIA

Hello and welcome!!!! Make yourself at home here and ask as many questions as you need!

What other option would you have for getting his veggies? I buy mine at the farmers market or the grocery market if we run out. Your rabbit should eat at least 3 cups of veggies each day consisting of at least 3 different types of veggies (eg. parsley, cilantro, and romaine lettuce. Can’t be three types of lettuces though). You can grow them yourself, but i’m too nervous about the buns getting worms (though it’s fun to grow some veggies in a pot inside).

Please post a picture of your bunny!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Mocha, I buy mine at the farmers market, they really seem to love it! And also, PICTURES!!

Mocha — why do you say it can’t be 3 types of lettuces?

I think that the lettuces don’t contain enough supplements, vitamins, or something. My house rabbit society gave me a little book with all of their rabbit information in it, and that’s what they told me. I’m sure you can feed your rabbit 3 types of lettuces as long as it has a bit of someting else.

I usually feed mine romaine+red leaf+cilantro+collard greens or spinach though.

I believe Mocha is right; not enough nutrients for the buns. Just because it’s healthy doesn’t mean it’s enough by itself. You can have the 3 types as long as there’s plenty of other veggies to balance out the vitamins and minerals.
Pete gets green-leaf lettuce, cilantro and dandelion in his daily salad, with mix ins of broccoli, flat-leaf parsley, romaine, and whatever veggie we are experimenting with introducing to his diet (he’s so picky). So far he has snubbed anything celery, curly parsley, swiss-chard (I got snorted at for that one!), and endive.
We generally get our veggies from the grocery on the stores truck days and always make sure to rinse them thoroughly before he gets them. That way I know there’s nothing on them and he gets a nice wet salad. When we can get to a local market I make sure to buy there, but still serve it rinsed and wet.
