Hi all. My Journey baby is being spayed as we speak.. UGH, nervous!!! Anyway I was concerned about when she comes home. She is an indoor bunny who has a bi-level cage. She has to climb up a ramp to get to the top of the cage. Should I move her water bottle down in the bottom of the cage for her? Should we put a tower or blanet in the bottom for her?

you should do everything to make it comfortable and easy for the bun.

you might even want to look into a dish for water. even though your bun is trained to drink from the bottle, it may be prudent to make it easier for her to drink by having the dish closer. Also i read somewhere their jaw or mouth might be sore making it hard. I hand fed her water from a little asian soy sauce dish

You don’t want her running and jumping, so I would move everything to one level and block off the other level.

Any tips on how to get her to take medicine? The vet suggested applesauce or yogurt. She has never had either..

Journey is home! Took her needs like a champ, nibbled on some veggies, and is now curled up resting.

heading back to the vet with journey. She will not drink or eat. she took her pain medication and I got her anti biotic into her. However, I can’t get her to eat anything else. The vet wants to see her just to make sure nothing else is going on.

Guess who decided to perk up when we got to the vet. She said her heart and lungs sounds great, incision looks good, and her temp is good. She wants us to watch her and if she doesn’t drink eat by tomorrow morning then she wants her back for an iv. she wants to wait and give her another day. she said it was 1 of the worst uterus is she had ever seen. We don’t know much about journeys past. She said she may have been bred and something went wrong then.

If you struggle to get her to take her medicine over the next few days try mashing up some banana and mixing the medicine in that. Bramble took his medicine from the syringe perfectly for the first few days, but then refused point blank to take it after that. The vet suggested diluting it with a tiny bit of blackcurrant juice but this didn’t fool him then someone on here told me to mash it through some banana and that worked a treat. if she still isn’t eating well tomorrow then the vet can give you medicine for her that is sort of a short term food supplement that should help, you just syringe it like the other medicines but if its like the one I got be careful because its bright orange and it does stain anything it comes into contact with so best to sit your bun on an old towel or something when you give it.

Tonight she took her pain meds like that were the best thing she ever had. I ended up putting some water in the empty syringe and giving that to her as well. She’s relaxing and eating a little bit.

My brave girl is doing so much better. As a matter of fact she’s trying to do more than the vet wants her to! She’s eating, staying to drink more, and becoming more like her old self. I find myself constantly checking on her, she looks at me like I’m fine go away. Or only problem is the antibiotic. She can’t stand that stuff!! We’ve tried applesauce, yogurt, she has never liked bananas, so not sure what is next!
