Hi so my bunnies are indoor rabbits during the day/ evening and usually sleep in the hutch in my garage at night but after going into the garage this evening it was blooming freezing in there and fudge felt really cold, poor little lady so we have decided we are bringing the hutch into the front room tonight as I’m not at ease with putting them back out there, I’ve been looking at prices for indoor hutches and they start at £120 which is the same as I paid for my outside hutch, I now have to make the decision whether to buy one of these ( apparently the bottoms are deeper so that wood shavings don’t get kicked all over the floor) or whether to try and modify the outside hutch by adding wooden sides so there’s not as much mess :-/ the only benefit I can see with buying a proper one is that it’s slightly smaller than my outdoor one so would fit better in my little front room :-/

Have you thought about using an x-pen to house your bunnies in? Are they litter box trained? I assume they must be if they are indoors during the day. I don’t know what kind of wood shavings you are using, but pine and cedar shavings are not recommended for rabbits. You could place some mats or rugs inside of an x-pen, along with a litter box. That would probably be less expensive than a hutch.

I concur with tobyluv – consider getting an x-pen; they’re cheaper and easier to manage than hutches, not to mention ultimately better for the bunnies because they get the room to roam. And yes, do stay away from pine or cedar shavings as they contain liver-damaging polyphenols.

I use wood shaving that are made for bunnies not sure of the name but it comes in a big bale, they are both litter trained as they spend the biggest part of the day out of the hutch running around like crazy, they only go in the hutch at night when we are in bed
