I have a female rabbit who is very cheeky, she is a house bunny and she literally eats everything she can.. She’s tried to eat the carpet, we have a babygate on the door so she can see us and she chews the bars, shes trying to eat the corners of the doors, the door on her hutch.. I have purchased a ‘Chew Stoppa’ spray from Pets At Home but this hasn’t seemed to of helped at all, she doesn’t mind the taste of it clearly as she goes back and carries on chewing the same things..

This is starting to become very annoying and upsetting as she is tearing the house apart and I really don’t want to make her go outside but if I cannot stop this I think it may be my only option! She isn’t short of attention or toys either so she can’t be bored.

PLEASE if anybody can help me please reply back to me, me and my bunny need some serious serious help!!!!!!!!!!!

          Firstly, welcome!

A couple questions: is she spayed? What kinds of toys does she have? Are you sure she’s actually ingesting and not just chewing? Have you tried vinegar on the things you don’t want her to chew?

          • Spaying her, if she isn’t already, not only will help with her attitude and behavior, but also will greatly reduce her chances of getting reproductive cancers.

          • Maybe you haven’t found the right kinds of toys for her yet! Try getting her a few things to climb in and chew on – anything cardboard (no ink), tunnels, untreated willow things, wooden chew toys, balls, baby keys, all of these make excellent boredom busters. There are also a ton of cheap and fun toys you can make at home (see the TOYtorial thread under Toys & Habitat). A personal favorite of my own rabbit is a paper towel tube with holes cut in the side and pellets inside that he can knock out and eat.

          • White vinegar is a rabbit safe cleaner and repellent that many rabbits find nasty to be around. Dilute a mixture of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water and spray on the areas you don’t want her to chew. This doesn’t work for all, but works for many. If it doesn’t work at first, make the vinegar side slightly stronger.

If all else fails, you may want to consider limiting her space a bit with an x-pen so that she doesn’t get into trouble when you’re not around.

          Good luck!

I think bunnies are natural chewers.  If they stop chewing, it could literally lead to their death (overgrowth of teeth).

You might want to make sure the bunny is actually eating the things she chews on, or whether she’s just chewing on it.  My bunny chews on a lot of things, like his water dispenser, the cage bars (I think almost all rabbits do this when they’re caged up), plastic things, plastic bottles, etc.

If she’s chewing because it’s fun, maybe start finding toys for her that she will like to chew.

If she’s eating things, then maybe she’s hungry?
