I have a holland lop that roams free in my room all of the time because I would feel horrible keeping him locked up all day. He is under the bed most of the time and only comes out to eat and use the bathroom. He doesn’t like I be held but loves to sit and next to me and be pet. I just bought a play pen for him to go outside and get some fresh air but getting him in his carrier is such a traumatizing experience for both of us and once he gets outside he doesn’t seem ecstatic. My question is will taking him outside benefit him or is the process of getting him outside and back inside to stressful?

For the longest time I had struggles with this. I really wanted my bun to experience outdoors. However when I brought her out she didn’t care and would jus cower in the corner. After asking about this, several members posted that they don’t ever take their buns out due to potential dangers such as predators and the possibility of ingesting thigs that are harmful. So is say this, if she has room and can run around and excercise in the home there is no need to bring outside

If you want to bring him outside once in a while, try associating a treat with the carrier and outside. Remember to make sure it is in the shade and he had water

The thing is my bunny only lays under the bed all day although he has toys and boxes and things to play with and room to run around. And my room can get stuffy sometimes I think some fresh air would benefit him! I just want him to stretch his legs and play!

If you’re talking about him laying under your bed during the daytime, that’s pretty normal. Bunnies are most active at dawn and dusk.

My bunnies are wide awake and chomping on hay at dawn, get their breakfast pellets around 8:00, then lounge and sleep most of the morning. They’ll eat a little more hay later in the morning, then off to a long nap until between 4 and 6. After dinner they explore and are ready to play.

Try spending time on the floor letting your bunny take the lead and explore.

I know that what I am gonna say has nothing do with taking your rabbit outside but I wanted to say that when my girl rabbit Kilala lived in her own bunny room she only wanted to spend time under the bed. I tried all kinds of things to get her to come out and play but she just wanted under the bed. She started to chew on the box spring cover. She was also chewing on the bed too. I made a barrier around the bed with grids that are used by some to make cages. After that she spent time with me and played. You could try that if you like. I will post a pic to show you what I did.
