I may be a bit paranoid, but I’m worried about Pete.

He has been acting happy and playful; lots of binkies this morning.  Everything seems normal with his routine, good poops, normal peeing, healthy appetite, but he started intermittently sneezing.   This could just be because I haven’t vacuumed behind the couch this week like I should have (it’s his favorite afternoon nap spot, and where the sneezing occurred), but I’m worried that there could be a health issue.  He lets me pet him and his belly feels normal, he even lets me handle his front legs (not the back feet), but he’s always been a bit shy about his mouth so I haven’t been able to get a good look at his teeth the last few days.  At his last check up (just over a month ago) the vet was very happy with his teeth and stated that they were perfectly straight and didn’t expect any major issues with them as long as he kept a healthy diet.

Is it overboard for me to have the vet take another look at him, or should I just keep an eye on him for a while (and of course vacuum his napping spot)?  I’m just terrified of anything happening to him. I know that the temperature in the apartment did drop about 5 degrees over the course of the night yesterday (from 77-78 normal to about 72-73), but even though it seems silly to me that is making me worry maybe it’s a small bout of a cold or pneumonia?  As I said, he seems happy and relaxed, and when he’s up he’s doing his normal bunmy-500 and binkies… it’s just that he wakes himself up from his nap with a single sudden sneeze about every 30-60 minutes… followed by a little lip licking and going back to sleep. (about 3 times so far)

         Am I just being paranoid?

Keep an eye on him. It could be he got some dust up his nose, but he could also be developing a URI. If he keeps sneezing for more than a day or two, then no it’s not overboard to have the vet check him out again. Occasional sneezes are normal, but if it lasts days and is something that happens more than once or twice in a day, it’s something worth checking out.

And no, those temps are fine. Rabbits do better with cold than heat, my buns sleep ON TOP of my A/C vents if it’s 72, cause they think it’s not cold enough. lol

            Thank you for the reply.

My fur-babies are good at making me worry about them.  He was prone to hiccups when he was tiny, and Zoey would always come crying to me that there was something wrong with the bunny.  She doesn’t seem concerned with his sneezes though, and neither does he.

There have been no more sneezes yet but I’m keeping an eye (and ear) on him.  He’s repositioned himself at the end of the couch to finish his nap time so I’m thinking maybe it could be dust.. but I’ve got the vets number on hand in case he starts back up.

Happily no more sneezes.. but after nap time I did find a nice pile of bunny and cat fur starting to collect behind the couch, in his flop-spot. I’m thinking maybe he got a hair up his nose where he was laying. He’s currently playing in the blinds (his favorite solo toy/game) quite happily.

Hahaha. Do keep an eye on him – URIs are very common, and the treatment for them isn’t usually very expensive or rigorous if it’s caught early; for example, Theodore’s URI was treated with $7 Bactrim twice daily. Which he loved because it was banana and cherry flavored. XP

Just keep an eye out and watch for any consistent sneezes and/or discharge from the nose or eyes.

If he is stopped sneezing, he probably got some hay dust up his nose or something. Keep an eye on him for a few days to make sure it doesn’t come back.

Still watching him, but so far so good.
He was grumpy early this morning because he ran into my husbands leg during his initial bunny-500, and decided it was his fault for being a road block. No injury to either party, just a temporarily grumpy bun.

Pete is doing well and being his usual curious self. He decided to check out what I was drinking and stole some of my chamomile tea. (I like tea at room-temperature so I wasn’t really concerned about him getting his nose in it.)
