I’m so concerned for my Senior rabbit hes 9 1/2 years young and he went in for a dental and a day later he was having issues with his hind legs. Very Scary. He is not eating on his own since the dental. Giving Critical care 4 times a day and sub q fluids every other day. when he is laying down he leans like his head is heavy. I don’t think he has head tilt when hes upright its not tilted. The doctor when she did the dental said he had puss (yuck) in his ear they cleaned it out. He is on the batril ear drops and we have now started the daily shot pen g with the benz (I do not know how to spell it) Am I in the right direction. He looks so pathetic. Poor thing. Is it normal for the hind leg weakness and the leaning with an ear infection. Thanks for all your input Oh his name is Buffett like Jimmy Buffett

The leaning is probably due to the ear but I wouldnt think the hind leg issue is. Have you reported this back to the vet?

Poor little guy – I think it sounds like you are in the right direction. The leaning could be due to the ear infection. I don’t think the hind leg weakness is though although it could be that the ear infection is causing him some difficulty in balancing so I guess it could be.

Hopefully the pen-g shots will work – it’s pretty good stuff.

Normally i’d suspect the hind leg weakness being to do with E Cuniculi infection but I wonder if he’s had something happen with his spine? From being under or when he came out of anaethesia.

I suppose its possible a bad ear infection may impact on nerves that might affect hind limbs also???

Poor guy! I’m not sure If the hind legs would have anything to do with the ear infection, but the leaning of the head most likely does.

I did mention this to the doctor she tested him for neurological factors and she said they were normal. He started doing this just in the morning now its all the time. He leans alot. Any advise to make him comfortable. Im not going to give up on him. Could he have EC his mate does. She has a little hind leg weakness. My vet scared me about the side affects of the drug for EC. The side affects are bad?

Maybe give him some extra cuddles and make sure he has a nice place to rest. Nobody on here can for sure diagnose your bun, but we can all give you our best input and opinions. I would have the vet confirm an illness before giving my bun a risky medicine, but that’s just me.

Progress slow but I’ll take it Buffett is not dragging his back legs, hes still a little wobbly. And his poops are actually bigger. He attempted to eat a few bites of cilantro. The vet said he maybe feeling dizzy with the ear infection and doesn’t want to eat. Thanks for all your healing vibes. Wish me luck I have to give him his Pen g shot today.

Still doesnt want to eat I give him critical care 3-4 times daiily Sub q’s every other day. The leaning and the dragging hind legs seems to have gone away. He is doo mad at me when I come into the room he darts into his cottontail cottage and gives me the eye. Im going to stay patient. I just wish he would eat on his own. But I guess if I had a severe ear infection I wouldnt want to eat either. Hes also still pooping different sizes but poop none the less. The pen g seems to helping hes improving slowly..

Maybe talk to your vet about whether he needs some pain medication? And meclizine might help also. It can help with dizziness and nausea. Maybe that could help his appetite??

For bit of extra sustenance, try adding pumpkin or apple or banana purée to the critical care. I’m not sure what else you could use to help gain weight while he’s on liquid food.

That’s good! How about a pinch of rolled oats? That would help keep the weight on.

Is he able to drink on his own?
