So my bunny Cappuccino is a Netherland Dwarf I think, he was a rescue. So he weighs about a pound and is about the size of a bread loaf. I’ve had him in a medium sized dog crate for the year I’ve had him and I’ve been wanting to upgrade but until last week I lived with my parents. But now that I have my own place it is time for an upgrade! So would you guys help me choose one? I want something with good ventilation but that has a enclosed bottom. So he cant fling litter all over the darn place Something with more space than I have now.

I suggest getting an exercise pen (you can build a wooden base) or an NIC DIY cage.

You would need to build bottoms for both.. But those are the cages that meet the requirements.

If you are going with an x-pen, make sure it is at least 36″ tall, or the bun might be able to jump.

For either cage, you can build two levels (or more.)

Absolutely do not get a store bought cage that is made for rabbits!

          Good luck

I agree with the suggestions above, but you don’t need to build a base. A roll of linoleum is perfectly fine as a base for a nic cage or xpen. I have a 3 grid x 6 grid x 3 grid condo sitting on linoleum and it doesn’t budge an inch, even with crazy bunnies ping ponging about in it!

I’d suggest attaching an xpen to your dog crate and using a linoleum floor, simple cheap and easy!

I like PipJe’s idea of attaching an xpen to the dog crate or just using an xpen as the cage itself.

Another idea for an upgrade would be to add the x pen for floor space, add a carsboard box or boxes so your bun could climb up the top of the dog crate, and add nic cubes to the side, so your bun doesnt jump off. You would need to add whatever base you choose for the xpen to the top, but it adds a myriad of ways for your bun to play it ultimately depend on your living arrangement and what you are comfortable with. Also, completely bunny proofing an area and adding nic cubes to block off undesired locations would be a hube upgrade so long as you keep the dog crate as a home base

Sunday I took him into the vet and she diagnosed him with possibly having snuffles so I just went to petco and bought him an extra large dog cage. The wire ones not the plastic. I like the Xpen idea though now that I have the crate I could definitely do that. Thanks so much for your help guys
