My parents put down the family dog this morning. They got him when my sister was 6 years old. She’s 19 now, and this has been really hard for her. I wan’t do do something for her, anyone have any ideas?

I don’t have any ideas but I just wanted to say I’m very sorry for the loss.

I would just check in with her and make sure she is doing okay for now. Maybe once the pain has lessened in a week or so you could do something special with her?

A framed pic? We lost our dog in July, and I’m making up a shadow box that will have the engraved box containing her ashes, a card with a bit of fur in it, her collar, and her picture in it. I know someone who made up a small shadow box for her pups collar, but an empty collar may be too much so soon.

Oh wow! I can imagine what a huge loss this is. So special to have his companionship for so long while growing up.

Are you wanting to put together a memento?

                    I am so sorry.
I love JR’s idea of a shadow box. Or you could plant a tree in his honor.

Just thought of something else ….. depending on how far you want to go . … (even for birthday or Christmas?) . … a small locket with his picture in it so she will always have him with her.

My sympathies on the passing of your family dog. ((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))) There is no harder loss than a pet who has been part of your life for years. :'(
Up here there is a lady who weaves pet hair into a memento for you. Perhaps there is someone nearby you who could do something like that if you have any of your dog’s fur still in a brush or clipped from his coat? I’ve googled these artists on the web before, there’s quite a few who do this at Etsy, I think.

Oh ZS! I am devastated for your sister, YOU, and your family – I am so sorry!

When we lost our Molly (dog) a few years ago now, I couldn’t think straight – the grief overwhelmed me. But I knew I had to do something to mark his life on this earth and through my tears (sob’s actually) I ordered a plaque to attach to the rock/boulder we placed on his grave in the garden. Embarrassingly, I called him again that afternoon thinking I wouldn’t cry and he could understand me (didn’t happen!) to change what I wanted written to – 15 years in my arms, forever in my heart. It just came to me!
I think, once you can think straight…. there is so much you can do – just choose something that you think is special to your sister, you know her best. I love all the idea’s that have been suggested and mine is only one of many. You know, I would have loved someone to have done that for me. I just took it all upon myself – it never occurred to me that someone (like you) would do that for another over a loss. Your truly wonderful ZS!
