Brought my bunny midnite to the vet today(8 yrs old) he has a molar spur guess its common with older bunnies. need to recheck in 6 wks vet wanted to do 8 wks i said can we do it sooner. need to check for any symptoms. i guess its very common and they just file it down or grind it down. anything i can give him to help the disease. he eats plenty of timothy hay will not chew any of the bunny wood toys, does like paper, cardboard and tv remote control buttons. anyone familar with this

I am not overly familiar with dealing with molar spurs personally. However, I know having him chew wood does help. Does he like willow twigs? Giving him those can help. As well as adding a coarser hay like oat hay will help wear down his teeth. From what I’ve read, even if you do take preventative measures it’s not always going to be a guarantee that it works to rid your bun of them permanently. Only because some buns may be more prone to it than others. But I’ve always been part of the school of thought that going the extra mile never hurt.

Yes i am thinking that too only surgery will prob. help just glad i brought him in before the problems developed. Catch it in time. This vet is very good. I brought him to a vet last yr almost killed him gave him amoxicillin deadly to bunnies. This vet told me she treated a rabbit that vet treated he did the same thing that rabbit died. Mine was lucky only 1 dose was given i saw on the net how bad it was and rushed him to another vet that night.

Actually it’s very common and chewing wood won’t help with this. As rabbit’s age they lose bone density and their teeth move.

Filing is not an actual surgery though, it’s just a procedure. The only thing that may help is hay but it’s not going to correct this because it’s due to age. It may slow down the need to do this as quickly but nope, nothing is going to stop this.
