Having become used to a lop bunny, I am totally at sea with a rex ear! Can someone quickly translate this ear position?

Lately Luna has been quite skittery and jumpy, but today she’s been ok, eating hay and exploring as usual. She lay down in loaf position, but her ears were flat against her head, the insides turned out so the pink was facing away from her. To me, that seems stressed out.

The only time Ive seen her do that before was when she was in the scrunched up ‘Im unhappy and in pain’ pose, with flattened turned out ears.

However, seeing as she’s doing it in loaf…?

What do flat turned out ears mean please?

According to the Language of Lagomorphs website, this ear position is usually one denoting stress or unhappiness, as you guessed. She’s probably still getting used to all these new things, and is a little cautious. But it’s good that she seems to be comfortable enough to eat.

That’s how Kieko sleeps about half the time. She has a litterbox with purple bedding in it that she uses as a napping box. She almost looks like an easter egg all loafed up with her feet tucked under, head pulled in, ears back. Wake her up from this position, and we get to see a stretch and yawn.

If she is laying down (even in a loaf) position, I don’t think it necessarily means she is upset or stressed. She may be sleepy and holding her ears up can be tiring.

I thought so, loafing is a chilled bun isnt it?

Yes, they are chilling out. They are not completely relaxed (i.e. full-on flop mode), but many will definitely doze while in a loaf.
