In case you didn’t know, Midas is living in a 4×4 exercise pen. (This goes along with the story, which is why I am mentioning it.)

Earlier today, I had a friend come over for the first time since I got Midas. He is housed in my bedroom, and takes up most of the space. Anyway, as soon as she walked in, she said “his cage is huge” at the exact time that I said “I have been looking to make his cage bigger.” I just found it funny because as a bunny owner, I don’t realize how big his cage actually is.

My friends aren’t educated on bunnies, so that was followed up by her asking why I couldn’t have just gotten a little store bought one, and me giving her a GIANT speech on how buns need “proper running space” and “certain cage size requirements.”

… Needless to say, she left very quickly, especially after seeing me pick up his poo and toss it into his litter box like it was no big deal.. She thinks bunny poop is like dog poop.. Haha, if bun poo was like dog poo, I would not be having Midas in my room. (I can’t stand the smell of dog poo, but then again, who can? )

If I had a dollar for the amount of times this had happened to me, I would be able to afford the BB store and everything in it!

Its always so funny when you educate friends on bunny things… One time I had a friend over and she thought that the wood chews would hurt her teeth/ jaw. Needless to say she went home knowing a lot about bun care (not to mention that at work its gotten to the point where everyone asks me if I want a box before they throw it away xD)

And I want to make a royal palace for my bun xD So its totally understandable why you always want bigger and better

I have been planning on making my own version of the BB Cottontail Cottage, but I am completely out of boxes. XD.

It wouldnt hurt to go to a local fast food place, or even pet store, and ask if they have any boxes they are about to throw out. Usually shipments of things (Food, supplies, ect) will come in boxes and most places will just throw them out. You may get a weird look, but they shouldnt fight you on a box they are about to throw out! If you explain why, I’m certain you will get a few odd looks but an animal lover would be able to appreciate your ideas, I’m sure!

I never thought of that! Thanks Flabebe

No problem! I find that most places where you buy products will be happy to hand over their garbage to you (One mans trash is another mans treasure!) And usually its someones job to dump out the excess cardboard boxes, so youre doing them a favor by lightening their load!

a picture of some boxes in a tunneling arangement

I’m very picky about my boxes though

Awesome pics, and at the moment, I am not, mainly because Midas doesn’t chew cardboard yet. The box that is his hidey house has tape and a sticker on it :/, but obviously as soon as I notice him chewing on it I will definitely remove it.

I try to remove anything harmful because I’m a paranoid bunny mom! Lilac likes to chew cardboard, but doesnt touch the boxes. Instead she digs in them!?

Weird, haha. Midas will drag them around, but he doesn’t chew on anything. Plus the sticker is on the side, so it would take a lot of chewing to get to.

Printing companies that do digital printing, run small duplicating presses, and high volume copying have tons of boxes that 8.5 x 11 paper reams come in. These boxes usually get broken down for recycling because they have so many. The boxes actually have a separate lid and are great for storing stuff as well as making bunny hideaways and connecting for tunnels.

LBP, I thought I’d give you another location where you can get boxes.

Call your local walmart (if you have one). They unpack their overnight boxes and stuff then. When we thought we were moving about a year ago, we called them and left our name, they told us a time when there should be boxes and we went and picked ’em up! They ‘should’ have tons of boxes that they don’t need. You may get some weird looks, but who cares?
