Hi all, thank you for just existing, it’s a relief I have somewhere to go for advice regarding our baby girl, Hershey. (sadly our family thinks we’re insane the way we treat our girl; telling us we should just put her in a hutch, which infuriates me, they wouldn’t do that to their dogs….. ignorance….sad, so to be able to join a forum where we are all bun parents who know the true joys of buns, is fab!)

My name is Hayley, my son’s is Caleb, and our girl as above is Hershey, a 6mth old dwarf lop who we (esp me) adore more than I ever thought possible for a pet. We have an 8yr Lab, Laska, and a 9yr cat Boyca, but nothing compares to what I feel, and receive from Hershey, my first ever girl anything. She was a birthday present for my son this year (10th) as opposed to a pet bug, he promised he would be responsible for her, but of course mum ends up with it all, and her and I have bonded in a special way as a result of being a stay at home, studying mum.

Our girl is definitely without a shadow of a doubt, the princess of the household, (I’m afraid I may have made her that way…….whoops!) the little diva who when she wants lovin, you’ll know about it! 🙂 Spoilt beyond reason and with due cause, she rewards us with affection I could bathe in. Having her spayed just recently was like going through hell. Laying by her side, reheating her heat wheat bag she would lay on….. watching her everymove to awaiting the ever important first poop, get her eating……well I’m sure some of you would know, when your baby girl is hurt, (like your human babies) you hurt too, but she’s mended, and back to her diva ways of ruling the household….literally lol.

I only have to look at her, and she comes up to me, buzzin for cuddles, kissing and lovin, lots of burring, (bun purring to us) and we could do that all day if I hadn’t things to do.

Above is what I initially had saved ready to post a couple of weeks ago. That’s how happy I was, and how loved our first beautiful bun was. Since then, quite a few things have happened, and our household has been rocked about since. My son and I fell in love with another bun at a petshop when shopping for hay. After a week of debating, and actually joining this forum to ask the question if my baby girl would still love me if we got him, well, we did. Hamish, a Netherland dwarf. My post also states that she still loved me unconditionally after his addition…

Last Monday, our lives changed, when my princess left us. She left me, and my heart still aches at the loss of such an amazing creature taken so suddenly when we were supposed to live a life of many years together, and I feel cheated because of how perfect she is, was, and that we had too little time together. So our perfect household, emptier without her.

We decided we needed a girl in the house, and thus Jersey is a new addition. A fawn coloured dward lop, who doesnt much care for me at all. However lovely it is to see the two very much taken with each other, she wants nothing to do with me. It’s a shame, she is very pretty, alot like Hershey in that she’s confident, fearless, curious, isnt scared of either me or my son, yet doesnt like any human affection.

We are awaiting Hamish to become of age so we can have him neutered, as he is nearly four months old. We also intend to have Jersey spayed as well.

Hamish has really come out of himself since our babies passing. He is no longer skittish towards us, quite enjoys cuddles now, and actually has become quite the kissy, cuddly boy, but only briefly as he needs to get back to his new girl.

Hershey has completely converted me to a true bunny slave. Our lounge room, back yard, in fact the entire house shows that. Tunnels, wicker baskets, tents, beds, grass mats, condos, etc etc displays the fact that we aren’t bunny owners, they own us!!!!

So that’s our family. 🙂 Thank you for allowing us to join a wonderful place for bun lovers, this site has been a great help for me, for advice and being able to express my grief at the loss of our angel. What a wonderful group of people and their much loved buns!

Welcome to you Hayley, Caleb and the furry family.

Gosh, reading the post was like an emotional roller coaster. Your outputting of love for Hersey and then to read she passed away. I’m just so sorry! I’m certain she will remain very special to you always.

I think I love your new bunny girl already.
          My first rabbit was Jersey!
Looking forward to learning more about her and little Hamish (also love that name).

I remember reading and responding to your post a few days ago regarding the loss of Hershey and felt so much for you and your son. That’s not an easy thing to go through at all, ever. But it sounds like you are slowly but surely beginning the healing process.

I’m glad to hear that Hamish seems to have found himself a great girlfriend, even if she’s not yet as in love with you as Hershey was. But it’s great to hear he’s coming out of his shell and by the sound of it, it seems they have a very happy home there with you!

              Welcome to the forums officially.
