Make sure to separate the rabbits once the babes meet sexual maturity (around 4-6 months) you wouldn’t want the babies impregnating the mama.

At pretty much any store, you can pick up small animal or cat nail clippers. Absolutely do NOT use normal human nail clippers (they do not have the curved edge, and could break the nail and cause severe pain for the rabbit.)

Depending on the rabbit, and the color of the nails, cutting them could take a while. To start off, it is much easier to have two people to do this (one for holding the bun, and one for doing the actual clipping.) Wrap your bun in a blanket (this is called a ‘Bunny Burrito’, and make sure she can’t squirm free or kick her hind legs (because of how powerful their back legs are, they could easily break their spine if they kick with enough force.) If your bunny is kicking his hind legs, and helps to gently lean against them. For some bunnies, it is easier to cover there eyes with a towel so they can’t see.

Do NOT ever trance your rabbit. Trancing a rabbit is flipping them into there back. Some people think that this calms them down, but they are actually terrified.

Hopefully that helped if you have any questions, there are many YouTube videos on clipping a bunnys nails. (I recommend looking up 101Rabbits on YouTube. She has a million helpful videos.)

There are several different techniques that can be used for nail clipping. The one that LittleBunnyPaws describes is quite common. You can use small animal nail clippers or cat nail clippers like LBP mentioned. You can, also, use small dog nail clippers. I would only use them if your bun has really strong nails.

I have been able to do most nails myself. Those dewclaws are tricky though because I’m trying to look at them while upside down. Most of the time, I can just set them on a strange surface like a table or the washing machine. I pull one foot out at a time and clip their nails. For Leopold, I can sometimes hold him in my lap and do it. But again, then I’m upside down. I will hold him with one hand under his chest and gently rock him back into my chest so that he is sitting on his rump. He has clear nails though, so it is just clip clip clip and we’re done.
