I have been trying to find the most efficient way to find hat, but so far, I can’t find anywhere that says the proper way to store hay. At the moment, my hay is in a large cardboard box with holes for air hole poked in it. Is this how your store your hay? Suggestions?

The hay has to “breath”, so keep that in mind. If you buy it in bags, just keep it in the bags. I am currently storing my bale in those big plastic rubbermaid bins.

Plastic bins like Mocha has are great. The only issue I see you probably having right now is that the hay will come through the air holes and get everywhere, that is unless the holes are very small. As Mocha says, the hay needs to breathe in order to stay fresh, so as little ventilation of some kind is required. I keep my hay in the bags it came in, tucked in the corner of the room.

It would depend on how much you get at a time. Since my husband is allergic to timothy hay, and Porky turns his nose up at anything else we get get in anything approaching bulk we keep buying small bags of organic meadow grass. Since it’s such a small quantity it’s easy enough to just keep it in it’s original bag placed on top of Porky’s condo where the roof is too high for him to reach it.

If I could by big bales, I would think differently.
