        Hi again everyone!

So I suppose it’s time for me to obtain a new vet when I come on here to question if she was right or not. My boy has been itching his ears for weeks and only once I noticed a few small scabs in one of his ears. The past few days he has been scratching like crazy, has what my husband calls limp ear and has been shaking his head and tilting it a lot. I noticed the inside of his ear is bumpy like acne and he has at least 8 to 10 small scabs in each ear. I called the vet and he was seen this morning. She looked in his ears and let me as well and his ears were perfectly clean, not even wax build-up. She said it could be mange mite, but that because it hasn’t spread it probably isn’t. She said it could be a fungal infection or insect bites because I have fruit flies in my kitchen. She said it could be an allergic reaction. She offered advantage flea and tick spray, which I declined because seriously, it’s not my first rodeo with animals and it’s clearly not fleas or ticks. She then gave me micazole 1 % to spray in his ears every 12 hours, said to use OTC benedryl cream to curb itching and gave me medicated shampoo to use on his ears once a week if the micazole and benedryl doesn’t work. I used a tiny amount of benedryl when we got home and I will not do it again because he just flopped ALL day, wouldn’t take his treat until he woke up after almost 3 hours asleep. Any ideas (aside from getting a new vet) on what it could be? He’s eating normal (now) and acting normal aside from the insane scratching and limp ear. Any insight or opinions are more than welcome! Thanks guys and gals and have a great night

I’m not quite sure, but here’s what I think. It sounds like mites. I don’t know how you can treat them, but your vet should know. I read on a guinea pig rescue site, that you can (this is for guinea pigs, but I’m pretty sure you can use it on rabbits) put some mineral oil in the inside of the ear with a Q-tip, this should suffocate the mites.

I know you don’t want to here this, but rabbit’s are very gentle animals, and one teeny illness sign, needs to be taken VERY seriously, and you’re vet should also be very experienced with rabbits, and know specifically what is wrong with them. Your’ vet should of told you how to treat your rabbit’s ears, not us online although we are here to help. Finding a new vet may be something to think about.
