Buddy had had itchy ears and went for his first vet visit 5 days ago. He is a rabbit vet and I was very impressed with his thorough exam of Buddy. He didn’t see much in his ears at all but did swab them and view under microscope. He did find some earmites. Said he had never seen a case caught so early.
Buddy got a shot of ivermectin and goes back in 2 weeks for another. The first few days his ears seemed much better and he stopped itching them. Yesterday and today he is back to scratching them again. He also seems to have a bit if dandruff which I notice on our black leather couch.
The vet blew into his fur all over and no sign of anything when he was there.
I thoroughly cleaned everything in his cage and area and his toys.
I don’t understand why he would be itching againjust 5 days after injection when he had relief for a few days.
        Any ideas?
I’ll probably call them tomorrow if he still is itching them so much still.

It could be a reinfections, but it could just be the healing process. Healing can itch, but the invermectin could also have stopped working. It could have either worn off, or the mites may be building a tolerance for it.
