so I just noted tht my bunny was scratching her ears quite a bit and decided since she now lets me touch and examine her tht I would take a look, I can see a bit of yellowish color down in her ear canal and being a pre vet student got out my vet merk manuel and I believe it is mites, I had scheduled a vet appointment which being a student is hard since there hours and mine dont match up very often . I then noticed she has these little white dots in her fur under her neck and on her chest area  so I think they r fur mites.. im taking her on thursday but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas that rnt going to harm her or cause alot of stress on her

The only thing I recommend is Revolution which you have to get at a vet’s office. It’s easy to apply.

ok well im going on thursday (i dont have a car to get there till then) and im gonna guess he will giver her ivermectin or maybe whatever revolution is. Im a pre vet animal science major at the university of findlay and in class we usually gave ivermectin to get rid of parasites whether it was goats or cows or any of the other animals. do you know what this revolution product is ( is it an injectable item or oral and is it a form of ivermectin or what kind of drug is it) sorry if im getting too specific.also how much is revolution, my vet said this visit could range from the regular check up price of 55 to 150 for medications

Revolution Puppy and Kitten is a topical spot on product you place at the back of the neck…. The active ingredient is Selamectin and this protects against most parasites and worms.
Do Not use Frontline or Comfortis….They will kill your rabbit.

Ivermectin is fine too. But you have to do I believe 3 doses of this…been a long time since I’ve used ivermectin.

Ivermectin is the standard injectable or oral for buns… A few isolated cases have reacted to it lately though so I tend to stick to the tried and trusted… BUT a lot of people have had the vet inject Ivermectin with no negative reaction.

I used food grade diatemaceous earth. Its a powder I put on their fur. Its non toxic and washed bedding. Worked like a charm! Just go slow so it doesn’t dust up as it is powder

Ok so I took her to the vet and her ears r fine but she has lice not fur mites or fleas. I treated her with the meds he gave me which was a treatment for cats but was safe for rabbits I cant remember the exact name right now but I just put it on the base of her hear down to her nape. She doesnt like the little wet area but she hasnt been itching as much just shaking because of the weird stuff I put on her. Hopefully it will kill all of the lice really fast but other than tht the vet said she is a very healthy little bunny

Good to hear! I guess it was Revolution for kittens the vet gave you. In some countries it’s called strongHold, but it’s the same thing. That’s good stuff =) Bet she’ll be lice-free in no time =)

It was actually advantage plus for cats and kittens ( found the box). Also I have a new question , so I put the stuff on her on thursday and noticed she hasnt been scratching as much. Yesterday during play time I decided to check on the lice and see if the stuff worked or was working. The lice are still on her but upon further inspection they are all dead. Honey enjoyed me plucking (or at least trying to pluck) off lice to check for movement or life and did a bunny flopp to show her apreciacion. My question now is how do I get the dead lice off of her. They r extremely tiny and I can barely see them to try to pluck them…I once tryed to use my eyelash brush to see if I could get them off tht way for a sample for the vet but tht didnt even get them they r so fine and are on the hair shaft not the skin like a mite would be. I dont know if I should wait for her to shed them off whenever she molts or whatever ( she has short fur and even though iv tried to brush her nothing comes off so I guess she isnt shedding now ) or if she will get them off herself or what should I do. I dont however want to even entertain the idea of giving her a bath of any kind that includes water since I know u shouldnt and there is no way I could do tht to her since she 1. Doesnt like to be held 2. Squirms like a worm when I do hold her 3. Is still a baby and not 100% used to me yet and 4. Has sharp claws. So any ideas would be great minus the whole bath thing…I have a soft rubber kitten brush and a soft bristle brush iwant to get the hair buster but dont have the extra money right now to buy it from BB  and I would never use those wire cat brushes on any living thing let alone my new baby bunny.

Lice, huh? Interesting! Glad she’s doing better.

I’m not entirely sure about removing the dead lice. I know they have those “nit” combs (i believe that is what they’re called?) for humans. I don’t know if that would work for her… Or i don’t know if they can just be left and the fur will shed out in time.

I’ll send a message to the other forum leaders for their input.

I just realized you posted this same question about removing the lice in the Diet and Care section. I’m going to lock this thread and others can offer their advice in the other section.

In the future, please don’t cross post the same question in different sections, keep everything related to your topic in the same thread.
