Roxi is, and has always been an extremely picky bunny. She has always refused to eat anything but hay, and while it is good that she eats lots of hay, I am worried that she could lose weight or become malnourished because she refuses to eat pellets or veggies. I have taken her to the vet several times for this issue, had her teeth checked, xrays, everything, and even the vet says there is absolutely nothing wrong with her, she is just really picky. I have tried every kind timothy pellets oxbow makes, and every veggie I can think of, and the only thing she likes is parsley, and will eat a few oxbow essentials pellets (like one mouthful). She is just a picky little diva! I have tried everything in can think of, but she only really likes hay. Any ideas?

NO idea! (nothing unusual for me, ha ha ha ha!), cause I’m at the other extreme – I struggle to get Henry to eat his hay. He is very piggish with his Oxbow pellets (that I reduced to 1/8 cup, months and months ago to try encourage his hay eating habits), and as soon as the sun goes down and it’s dark (I was wondering how he could tell the time?) he ‘demands’ his veggie/salad dinner! Henry is surviving based on me giving him his restricted pellets daily along with his veggie dinner and ‘if your still hungry’ eat your hay! He struggles! What I would give for Henry to indulge in his hay the way Roxi does – I would be super excited! Being that hay is supposed to be the majority of our bunnies diets and your Roxi is overindulging and only excluding what most say is dessert…. I’d be ok. Because you still have to make dinner for Lionel, Stevie and the piggies, just keep offering them to her, who knows, she may come around/feel like it one day?
I’m not fussed on chocolate, but my hubby always offers me a bit from his ‘BLOCK’ – on occasion (very rarely) I accept his offer – only for him to get caught out and he says ‘ooops, there’s none left’ – idiot!

And if your super confident with your vet (like I am with mine) and he says it’s all ok – honestly, I wouldn’t worry (though I know you will!). I take a lot of comfort and ‘relief’ when my vet (as long as you trust them) says “it’s all good”!

PS – and make sure Roxi isn’t watching any of those DIVA show’s on tv! Just tell her she is beautiful the way she is…. he he he he he!

Have you tried any herbs like mint or basil?

I second Sarita. Have you tried mint or basil? I would, also, try dill. My buns go nuts for it. Cilantro is another favorite with them. So maybe trying really fragrant things with her will help.

I have mint growing in my garden, and she will not eat that, and actually all my pets hate dill. (Weird, huh!) I buy cilantro all the time because Lionel and the pigs love it, she shows no interest in that. I haven’t tried basil in a while, maybe I will give that another go to see if she will eat it.

Have you tried sherwood forest pellets? Or even alfalfa pellets, just to entice her to eat pellets at all and maybe if she likes those, she would start eating the regular ones?

As for fresh, that’s really weird. Have you tried fresh grass, dandelions? Or maybe some safe flowers? Mine can’t resist dandelions and that is a more natural food for them, so perhaps she might take to it? If you have no yard, you can often buy them at asian markets and such.

Where can I buy Sherwood forest pellets? I will pick up some alfalfa pellets today, I had some when she was a baby, and she didn’t eat much of them either, but I guess that’s better than what she is doing now.
I don’t have a lawn but I have been growing some grass in a pot for the bunnies, which (obviously) she won’t eat. I will see if I can get some dandelions for her.

Ok, I have found the Sherwood Forest Pellets. Which one do you think would be best to buy? I think I might get the adult one because it has a mix of Alfalfa and Timothy hay. I did notice that they all contain seed oils, is that a problem?
Gosh, I spend a fortune on food for this girl, and she doesn’t even eat it. Good thing I have other pets that can eat it!

So bunnies can eat dandelion flowers and not just the leaves?

They can eat all the parts-flowers, leaves and stems.
