Hi so i have been reading up on rabbits for about 3 months now and decided that now was the right time to get one so i was looking for one to adopt at a shelter. While at the local county fair i found a rabbit that i fell in love with but didn’t know anything about and decided to give her a chance at life as an indoor pet. I bought her on saturday but could not pick her up until the end of the fair on sunday night. i figured she was about 1 year old in my head for some reason and so i got adult pellets and timothy hay and a big cage for her only to learn when my dad came home with her that he had talked to the man who raised her and she was only 8 weeks old. i had always planned to get an older rabbit and specifically one that has already been fixed and is through its teenage years since iv read some stories of a bunnies personality changing and becoming sour but iv also heard the opposite. I don’t really know how to bond with her since she is so young (most of the places i looked recommended feeding vegetables through the bars to gain trust but being so young she cant have fresh vegetables). any help would be appreciated to aid me in taming and bonding with my new baby Honey.

          Congrats on your new bunny!
Most rabbits do go through a teenage stage where they kind of loose their personality due to hormones, but after they are fixed +1month they should go back to their normal selves.
You can bond with her by laying on the floor while she is out, and just letting her hop around you. You could offer her some pellets or something when she comes near you. Talk in a soothing voice.

She will be okay eating adult pellets. Just pick up some alfalfa to mix in with the timothy hay.

I just got young rabbits too, I am bonding with them by sitting on the floor and talking to them. I let them bounce up to me, and sniff, and eat hay out of my hand. They seem to like fresh hay, and if I hold sticks/bark for them to nibble on. In the first week I had them and they were going crazy doing the Bunny 500 around my room, I just sat in the middle of the room with my laptop on a box and browsed the internet so they got used to my presence.

Even though I’m desperate to cuddle them, I’m trying to ensure that I don’t push it – I don’t always try and touch them when they come to me, and I stop stroking their backs before they get nervous and bounce away. I never chase them or go into ‘their’ safe areas, there’s two spots where I will get down low and slowly go up to Jessica and feed her hay, she knows those spots and is happy for me to pat her heaps while there.
Hugh is more outgoing so can be patted wherever he stops. A bucket of pellets helps there too.

I have had Hugh and Jess for nearly two weeks and they are much more relaxed than when they first came in.

I did give mine greens – I definitely noticed a change in pooh consistency with a tiny amount. I use single basil leaves now when I really need something – like coaxing them into their carrier to go and see the vet!

Ya she is much better now and has warmed up to me a lot since I got her not yet a week ago . Since I had to take her with me to college I let her stay in her cage the 2 days I was home so she would just get used to my smell and voice and then at college I would go up to the cage and talk to her. My roommate hadnt moved in yet so for the first 2 times I took her out we went into her enpty room and she did giant binkys (she had done little ones previously in her cage) and loved it but got tired after a half hour and just plunked herself doen next to my leg and I gave her a good petting (I have a video of the play time aftermath it is soo cute so ill have to figure out how to post it)  she wou, d follow me and actively wants to be pet which is awesome since I was afraid she wouldnt want to be pet or warm up to me  for at least a few weeks  . I also learned she likes basil and tested this by giving her a baby leaf so as a treat she gets one baby leaf when she is with me on the floor before bed and I pet her…she even lets me touch her tail and paws which is a bit weird from what iv learned since buns dont like tht normally , thanks for your help tho
