        Hello,

I received a call Friday from the breeder we got our other buns from, to let me know that two of my rabbits sons had been returned and were about to go as snake food, so I went and got them. I now have two new buns, a 6 month old and a 1 year old (my rabbit was a breeder before I got him). The younger one, Leonard Nimoy is transitioning fine, and is loving the hay which he’s never had but also eating his pellets. The older bun, Peter Von Marshmallowsocks has decided he wants only hay and no pellets. He was fed a pellet only diet his whole life so I can understand why he loves the hay, but is this something I should worry about? He is eating a huge amount of it and his poos seem fine. I have been weaning him onto our pellets slowly and he was almost switched over before he decided not to eat them..

        Thanks !

How long has he not been eating them for?
I’m inclined to say give it a couple of days and see how he gets on. As long as he’s eating hay and drinking and pooping I wouldn’t worry too much

I agree, he should be fine… Sprinkle some pellets through his hay so they are more interesting and start him on some greens… just something light to start like a chinese green (Bok choy) or some basil and coriander.

My girl Nermal de Nomnoms eats very few pellets although they are always there if she wants them. she’ll have a few now and then but much prefers fresh hay and her salads.

He didn’t eat any pellets at all yesterday, from his normal being around a cup. He’s still pretty stressed from the move so I haven’t started him on greens yet, but I’ll start him tonight when everyone else gets theirs.

The pellets are high protein and he needs them to keep his wool production up, so I can’t wean him off of them, really I’d like to keep him at around 3/4 cup at least, plus his hay and veggies. That’s what my others get and their wool production is amazing. These guys are fiber animals as well as pets.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll give him a couple days and just keep an eye on him.

              Thanks!

So as of tonight he still has not eaten his pellets. He did eat some more hay, a few dandelion leaves and a few bites of oats/pellets. He did eat the leaves with gusto, but I’m afraid to give him more since he’s never had greens of any kind in his life. Should I give him more greens and risk diarrhea? Or is there some other trick to get him to eat his pellets that I’m not thinking of?

                Thanks!

My boy Piglet is an Angora and his little girls have the long hair too in varying lengths…. I’d give him a few more days or maybe try a different pellet… Just build the greens up slowly one at a time with intervals of a week before adding anything new.

Oh and Piglet is a pet…. I get him groomed for his comfort but the fur goes in the bin……
