What have people used to close the doors on their NIC cages?  I tried using binder clips but they weren’t stable enough and kept popping off.  I was thinking of using maybe carabiners.  Any other ideas?

I use binder clips, but if they aren’t working for you, you could try carabeaners or dog leash clips.

We originally planned to use bungies, but switch those out b/c we were concerned about the pointness of the hooks. We ended up using clothes pins. The advantages to them is they are easy, cheap and everywhere. The down side is you need several to keep each door secure.

We attached 2 or 3 inch corner brackets (2 per condo level) underneath the edge of the level so that they stuck out about an inch with the L pointing upward. Next cut a 1 x 2 and dropped it in crosswise. Just lift all three out to open doors (our condo is 4 nic grids wide with the center 2 grids as doors that go the full heighth of the condo). We did this because I was afraid of Kieko pushing on the doors and getting stuck between the doors and the floor of each level — the slat closure hold the doors tight against each level. At the base we did the same thing except used a piece of the baseboard as the slat.

The top level of ours is set so that we can open one grid of the door by itself since Kieko likes to eat up there. That grid has binder clips on one side and the bottom to hold it closed.

I have “trigger hooks” to hold the door shut on my condo. (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=trigger+hook&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Atrigger+hook) I had no idea that’s what they were called, but they’re pretty sturdy and they can’t push the door open like they may be able to with a large carabiner. The ones I have have double ends, but I just use one end to clip the two gates together.

I Use 3 Dog Lease Clips, and a binder clip. depending on the size of your cage you may have to use more or less.

Thank you all! I bought some of those trigger hooks and they work perfectly.
