Recently for the past few weeks or so, there have been days where Mason would have diarrhea. It would mat in his fur and I would give him butt baths, but they are so sporadic that I have no idea what it could be ! I do plan to take him to the vet if needed, but I haven’t because he would naturally get better in the next few days. I don’t know if it’s this heat, but I keep him cool at all times and during the end of the day I play with him outside for a few hours. I do know one instance where he did get it because I fed him some vegetables that still had a pretty good amount of water content on them and so I assume it is that, but any other time I am not sure why. Is it because his tummy isn’t use to vegetables that I get him? He is only 8 months…and my veterinarian said that it’s fine to give him vegetables. He doesn’t eat anything out of the norm. 1/2 cups of pellets in the morning and 1/2 at night, the rest of his day is consumed in hay or his toys, cardboard house, but nothing excessive. I just don’t know. I don’t want him in pain or even covered in his poop. Is this normal? Maybe his tummy is just digesting it funny? NNNNGGGG.

Is it like mushy poop? Not watery?

If watery, he needs a vet asap.

If mushy, sometimes it’s a matter of just feeding hay for a while until it normalises. Limiting pellets and vegetables or omitting them altogether (temporary) to see if there’s an improvement.

At 8 months, a cup a day of pellets is a lot. You could definitely start reducing those. Is it an alfalfa or timothy based pellet?

And…. seeing as your screen name is Very Fat Bunny, I have to ask; is he actually overweight? :p

It’s mushy, not watery. It’s “Selective” brand pellets. It is alfalfa based and I go to a local farmer to get fresh timothy hay by the pounds for him.

I think i know the brand. Science selective? It’s a good one.
He’s old enough to start transitioning him onto a Timothy based pellet. That could help with the messy poop issue.

If the diet is too rich, they’ll get excess cecals (the poop they’re supposed to eat) and they can become mushy instead of in the little grape-like cluster.
Its messy, smelly and really gets stuck in the fur!

Yes, science selective. Okay I’ll keep an eye out when I switch out his pellets. It could also be the rich diet as well, I’ll keep that in mind as well. Thank you !
