Hey guys! I have a an almost 6 month old rabbit and we are currently watching my sister’s almost 8 month old rabbit. My bun (Petey) has been doing wonderfully on Timothy grass hay, but my sisters (Herbert) will hardly touch the stuff. I had always wanted to see how Petey would do with some oat hay and orchard grass hay (mixed in for variety), and am hoping it will help Herbert eat more hay. But I’ve heard that young oat hay can be bad for rabbits under a year because they can’t digest it as well as older rabbits. Is this also the case for mature oat hay? or what about the oat/ rye blend?

Any input, ideas, and suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!

I’ve never heard that. Wooly was eating oat hay when he was under a year old, there were never any problems.

My buns have all had oat hay from very young, in fact my oopses have had it from the very beginning with the occasional treat of meadow hay when it has the tastier herbs in it… Never had a problem.

Wow! Thanks so much, that’s very comforting!
Does anyone know about the oat/rye blend in the binkybunny store vs just the oat hay? And whether it’s ok to feed just oat hay (for my sisters picky bun) or Should it really be mixed with a grass hay?
Thanks again everyone! I really appreciate it!!
