So, I just finished posting on BB and I was just giving Porky some pellets, when I notice he’s hopping a bit funny.  He also suddenly has a small cut at the very tip of his tail.  It’s weird the fur is short around the cut.  I can’t imagine how something could have happened to him, he is an indoor single bunny.  He couldn’t have been in a fight or anything.

Of course it’s the weekend.  I don’t know if I should wait till Monday to take him to his usual exotics vet, or take him to the vet ER and hope they have a rabbit vet.  I suppose I could call them and ask.  He’s not acting really weird so I’m not sure if he’s in pain or reasonably comfortable.

Could he done find it himself if something were really bugging him on his tail?

You can probably wait to see his own vet if he seems to be acting pretty normally.

Just a thought… Could he have chewed a cord somewhere?

I think you’re right JG, about him doing it himself. I guess he must have bitten it himself, I can’t think what else could have happened.

I was just check the vet ER’s website, and they say nothing about exotics. It occurs to me even if they have an exotics vet on staff the chances of him/her being on duty today are small. I’ll wait till monday to see our regular vet, it’s only about 24 hours from now that they open, hopefully they can squeeze us in early. I think I’ll call today even though I know they aren’t open to leave a message.

I just double check that all the bunny proofing was still in place on the cord to his airconditioner, it looks fine.

He doesn’t seem in pain, he was honking at me while I was in there checking it. It’s so hard to be sure with bunnies though since their instinct is to hide pain at all costs.

I meant to ask about the hopping. Is it his back legs looking bit odd?

Yeah, it’s his back legs. It looks like he’s on a slippery surface where he can’t get a foot hold, except he was on the thick fluffy carpet.

He’s the same. I’ve called the vet 3 times already this morning and keep getting a busy signal. Of to try again hoping 4th times the charm.

Finally got through, they are completely swamped today and can’t get us in till tomorrow morning.

They’ll call us if they have a cancellation though.

I wanted to update yesterday, but the board wouldn’t come up on my computer.

The vet thinks he must have gotten his right hind foot caught on something and pulled it. There are no broken bones and though he’s favoring one side, he has reasonable strength in the injured side. The cut on the tip of his tail is superficial and healing, so he’s not biting it repeatedly or anything.

Long story short Porky will be fine.

So, does the vet think Porky caused the cut to himself or part of getting stuck in something???

Oh, and obviously – I am super happy Porky is all ok! I only just saw your thread, sorry Eepster!

He couldn’t figure out how it could have happened either, but since it’s healing and it was minor it doesn’t seem to be Porky repeatedly biting himself, which is what I was worried about.

One of my past bunnies had this issue too. She started limping a bit one day, no idea what happened. Took her to the vet, who said she would be fine, and sure enough, it healed just fine by itself.
