I got layla two days ago and started with the potty training right away. She seemed to be doing fine until today, she will poop in her litter but then she will poop out of her litter also. I have the hay where her potty spot is so she can eat but when she eats pellets from her bowl she poops on the floor. Should i put all her pellets in the cat box so she can it from there? I don’t know if im doing anything wrong. Its my first Flemish giant! And also how old are they supposed to be when introduced to children? I have a 2 year old niece that won’t leave her alone and she runs away whenever she approached her. To get her spayed how old does she have to be?

          Congrats on your new Flemish!

Cash does the same thing. He’ll pee in his litter box, and poop a tiny bit, but then little poops EVERYWHERE else. He is a pain to litter train admittedly. Not sure if that is the breed, or just your bun’s personality. I’m definitely thinking the bun’s personality has more to do with it. ((Although I have heard countless people comment on how Flemish are particularly hard to litter train. ))Also it will be harder to litter train when they are not fixed.

For me, I propped a small box beside the cat box, and put his pellet food on that, so he had to stand in his litter box to reach the pellets. So he had to stand in it to eat, and poop in there. Admittedly didn’t really help.

Rabbits can be spayed between 4 and 6 months. Usually once they hit sexual maturity. Although you can wait until longer. Cash wasn’t spayed until the other day and he is a year and a half.

And introduced to children? I’d say introduce her young, but make sure any child around her isn’t chasing her, or being too rough or squealing. It could frighten poor Layla, and might cause her to be nervous with them in the future. Maybe, wait until your niece is older before introducing her, and make sure she knows how to properly pick Layla up, and act when around her. I’d say introduce Layla to an older child, who will follow instructions and handle her properly first before moving on to a younger one.

Wll congrats on your new Flemish! I hope to see plenty of pictures of miss Layla as she grows!

            Thanks so much!

I ended up putting her pellets bowl in her cat box, well see how that turns out. And is there a less dusty hay? I’m currently giving her Timothy hay and she sneezes sometimes. But then again she sneezes when shes out playing in the living room. her nose isn’t wet and there’s nothing blocking but sometimes i feel like its cold but not sure if it really is wet.

              Good luck with the pellets!

I buy my hay from a farm by the bale ((It’s a TON cheaper that way!!! $6 for 85 pounds)) and it’s pretty dusty. I’ve bought store ones in the past and they all were dusty… Cash sneezes around it too, but has no actual issues. It’s just a couple of sneezes with no blockage, and then a ton of vigorous face grooming! I brought it up to my vet and she said it’s prolly just allergies. If it really worries you, you can call your vet and ask them, or you can bring her in.

Also I forgot to mention… With a Flemish there is one giant difference than other bunnies. Since they are a lot larger, they are a lot heavier, and a lot more awkward to carry. And they can escape form your arms if they really want to as lot easier than a little bunny can. IT takes a little practice carrying them, but you shouldn’t have too much of a problem.

And OMG she’s a sandy?! Oh she is so precious!

She’s a little different… She has a sandy looking mohack on her back and head and the bottom/sides are light gray while her feet and tummy are while

She sounds adorable. Strange patterns for a Flemish though. She’ll be a real cutie when she grows up.

I don’t think Flemish Giants are any different from any other rabbits – some rabbits (individually) just need more training and 2 days is really not enough time for her to get the hang of anything.

I would give her at least a week to acclimate to your place then start introducing her to your children.

So for the past few weeks she keeps sneezing a lot and now I see that she has black stuff around her nostril. I googled it “(i know bad idea) and I found something similar to what she does. It says that its a deadly bacteria that could cause death. And I’m not sure if it’s true or not

This should not be fatal to your bunny if treated appropriately.
It sounds like she may have some form of a URI. I would take her to the vet and have a culture and sensitivity test done, and you can treat based on the results from that.

Sorry for the late posting. I tool Layla to the vet like two days after I last posted and she had that bacteria. But Shea doing fine now since she’s in antibiotics for a month. She seems better but still has her sneezy fits here and there. Nothing comes out of the nose anymore though so that’s good!! I’ve also noticed she’s started to mold and I’ve been so excited about that! Lol anyways she’s getting bigger and is a well behaved bunny as far as Ive noticed. She seems to like to sIT on her pee tho cause she has my carpet stained. So I was wondering, when she was smaller she would let me hold her but now every time i try she makes a noise and runs away obviously annoyed but is there any advice you guys could give me to help me pick her up?

Often rabbits don’t mind being held when they’re young, but they grow out of it and won’t tolerate it as they get older.

If she doesn’t want to be picked up, theres not much you can do. One of mine hates it and really won’t have it at all, but it’s not a problem, I just cuddle with him on the floor.
