Cookie is not eating or drinking. Last night I came home late and I quickly went to feed him his dinner. He didn’t come out to eat. It was really late so I decided to give him a small amount of simithicone and get in bed. I assumed he might have some gas in his stomach since it happened before. This morning I had to wake up early and run out of the house. When I went to give Cookie breakfast he still wasn’t eating. I assumed the gas had not yet passed so I give him a little more simethincone and left the house. Later in the day my mom went home to do something really quick before she went out again. So I asked her if she could check on Cookie.(I was still out) She told me that he was having diarrhea and had still not ate or drank. When I finally came home I cleaned up the runny poop and gave him some critical care and a tiny bit more of the simethincone. It has been a few hours since then and he is still not eating or drinking. I wish I could call my vet but she is closed at the time. I don’t know what to do. Is it gas? I thoulght it would be since his eating schedule has become extremely off this month since my schedule is really hectic. I unfortunately have no control over the hecticness of this month. However next month things will be back on track. What should I do?! Should I just force feed him some more critical care tonight and then in the morning call the vet?!

I’m thinking teeth, but it could be any number of things all of which will require urgent vet treatment. If you are unable to take Cookie to the vet see if your Mother can drop him off but I think the delays so far have made this an urgent priority and I would not wait any longer.

Thanks for replying right away. Thing is that the vet’s office is closed! It is 8:00 pm right now. I don’t know what to do. I offered Cookie a pellet just a little ago and he ate it. He was also digging at his blanket like crazy. Does that show any sign of whatever he has to be not serious? What to do?!!!

The diarhhea is the big concern asd is the not eating… Is he drinking any water ? Is there an after hours number or emergency number for the vet ?

Is he pooping now or still runny? Gas should have cleared over night if that was it. It could be many things, but the longer he doesn’t eat normally, the higher the risk of stasis. And with not drinking or eating greens, along with runny poops, dehydration is a worry too.

If there isn’t an emergency vet, I would get him in on opening in the morning. You are in the crucial hours for turning it around to avoid a very serious digestive issue. He needs whatever it is resolved so he can eat / drink again.

In the mean time, tummy massages can help break things up and relieve pain if he will tolerate it. You can dropper some water in his mouth if he isn’t drinking (my vet had me do that when Powder stopped drinking after his neuter) but not too much, don’t want to choke him. And just try to entice him to eat something – hay is best, but greens tend to be the first thing an ill bunny will go for and they have water in them to hydrate him (only known greens though, something light that won’t upset his tummy more).

Sorry, I was busy with Cookie so I wasn’t able to reply earlier. Last night I took Cookie to an emergency vet place with rabbit doctors. They gave him fluids to hydrate him for the night. They sent us home with antibiotics and probiotics. We were supposed to take him to the vet this morning for examination, but the animal hospital I normally go to is changing location. The only other animal hospital available that has a rabbit savvy vet can’t take Cookie in until 3:00. He is not available any earlier since he is doing an operation. For now, I am giving Cookie antibiotics, probiotics, and critical care. This morning I gave Cookie veggies and he ate them. I will keep updating you all on how he is doing

Glad he ate some greens, that’s a good sign. Let us know what the vet says.

Vibes for you and Cookie, so glad you got him to a vet… Early intervention can mean the difference bewteen life and death with a bunny as they can decline so very quickly.

Thank you all so much for the vibes and your advice! Cookie’s health is greatly progressing! I will tell u how he is doing after I tell u about the vet visit. I was really nervous about taking Cookie to a new vet since I have had a bad experience in the past. However, the vet turned out to be great! She totally new what she was doing. One thing that stood out to me the most was how she made sure that she explained everything very clearly to me and why he might be the way he is momentarily. After she checked him up she found that he was well hydrated and had a full stomach. Cookie was digging at the towel much that was underneath him much of the time. She told me this was a good sign of activity. There was a lot of talking and a lot of me explaining how his schedule has become extremely off this month since my schedule has become extremely hectic. He was eating at off times since I was out a lot I would not be able to turn on the A.C. when it was hot. She talked to me about how this results in stress which results in upsetting his system. There was much more talking, but I obviously can’t tell u all everything she said. She told me I need to try and get him eating by keeping his favorite hay and veggies in his pen and putting some pellets. She told me how much critical care he should get a day and went over the medicines (antibiotics and probiotics) that I am giving him. Then she told me that he needs to get back on to a strict schedule and needs to be monitored as much as possible. Gladly all the stuff that threw my schedule off is now over so I will be able to spend much time with Cookie monitoring him. A little bit after we got home I put a bowl of romaine lettuce and cilantro in his tunnel(where he was) and he ate them! It took him a while to finish it as he took some breaks. But I think that still shows a sign of progression. A little bit ago Cookie came out of his tunnel and went to his littler box to poop. It was not runny, but it was mushy. Afterwards he was fishing through the hay looking for new hay. I gave him some new hay and he ate a little bit. Just a few nibbles. But I think that is also a good sign! Tonight I will be giving Cookie his medicines and will give him some critical care. Keep Cookie in your prayers! Thank you all again!

Glad Cookie is doing better and the new vet sounds very good. Hope he continues to improve and is back to normal soon!

This morning I had a small handful of pellets out for Cookie and he ate them! After he finished he was looking around for more food. I offered him some more, but he didn’t eat them. I gave him some veggies and he is still eating them. It will take a while for him to finish it though since he takes many breaks in between. He also picked through his hay a little bit. His poos are no longer runny. They are pretty hard. However, they have weird shapes. This morning he was digging a lot at his blanket. I think this shows that he is not dehydrated. I think Cookie is improving very well. Just keep praying that he continues to improve.

The unusual shapes are normal when they are not eating much, I had odd shapes in both of mine when they had their spay/neuter surgeries and weren’t eating right. But, no longer runny and eating some is great news. Sounds like you caught it early enough to turn it around for him before it became a stasis battle and he’s mending well.

Quick updates. Cookie drank water on his own for the first time last night! He also drank water early this morning. He ate a bowl of veggies while I was sleeping last night and almost half the pellets in his bowl last night. His poop looks almost normal again. He also nibbled on some hay. He is half done at the moment with another veggie bowl I put out for him. I think Cookie is doing really well. I am just kink of sad because he is always scared of me right now since I have to pick him up at least five times a day and stick stuff into his mouth. Whenever I am around he is hiding in his tunnel.

He will get over it. I know it makes you feel bad and they don’t understand it’s for their own good.

Sounds like he is feeling much better.

Yah, I figured that once he is back to normal he will get over it.
