I’m making a bunny sandbox out of a kiddie pool and would like to know what type of sand I should pick up to fill it? Regular sandbox sand or something specific?

Sand is generally not recommended for bunnies as it gets in their nose and eyes.
You can fill the sandbox with shredded paper and hay for them to dig in.

I did the shredded paper, LEL. They haven’t dug in it yet, but will hop in and chew!

Hmmm yeah I’m not sure I would do sand either-I could definitely see them ingesting some and that’s definitely not good to eat. I think shredded paper is probably the best way to go; or cardboard box forts

A good phone book is a digging favourite for mine. Pull off the front cover put it in the playpen and they delight in ripping apart the pages and digging on it.

My buns have gone nuts over their new digging box. Balled up unprinted newsprint, paper towel tube cut into 4 pieces, cardboard chips, and some Carefresh crinkle litter (for color!) — Marlee burrows and Moshi tosses the paper around. Whatever gets thrown or kicked out is super easy to pick up and toss back in, plus they get to shred the paper themselves if the want. Loads of bun fun!

Mine will only dig fleece, of all things and only if it is securely tied down.

Funny you should say that about the fleece. We have fleece covering the floor of our bunny area (Marlee’s feet are to special to ever touch vinyl flooring . .. hmmm). The fleece is attached to the xpens with binder clips and the buns are determined to detach the corners of the fleece. We ended up having to put large river rocks in the back corners.

I should take pics of what mine did to their fleece lined cat condo. lol Seems to be their life goal to turn anything fleece and secured into a big mound of fluff.
