I love my sweet Chippy, but he makes me want to tear out my hair.

Help me understand this – am I looking at a bun that is possibly just not bond-able? He is a cool cucumber with her on the other side of the screen. Face to bunny face – yeah…. does his MO: lunge-bite.

Also she likes him – likes Licorice less. She does try to groom/cuddle with Chipper. Licorice – they nip at each other, groom some, then she usually ends things by charging him.

With our two girls, we found the always just wanted to kill one another.

It’s taken about three months of baby steps, but we’re finally there…

We found that, me and my wife would sit on the floor in a neutral space, each of us holding one of the buns (Holding them, by basically just placing a hand over them while they sat on the floor), so they couldn’t get away, or closer to each other, we did that for probably two months, every night, just so they could get used to being near each other without there being any fighting and the likes.

Now, I think that’s the bonding method we’ll use in the future, too, as, although it’s very slow going, it also has resulted in a lot less nips and tufts of fur being pulled…

That is Chipper asserting his dominance over Luna. My male bunny Neji did the same to my female Luna too. With my buns it lasted until they were completley bonded, even when I had permanently moved them in together Neji would nip at Luna to say he was boss.
He doesn’t do it any more and I think your two will be the same

What happened does not look serious to me. Notice how toward the end, only Chipper was being petted. Luna sort of slide down and went to sniff Chipper (or whatever). In that split second, both hands were on Luna to pull her back up. As she was being lifted, Chipper gave a little nip. To me, it looks like he was trying to regain control of the situation. He definitely wants her to know he’s the dominant bunny. What would have happened if they were in close proximity and they were both being petted? I wonder if he would have nipped at her, since in the video it looked very reactionary.

What a stinker! That’s exactly like my boys, only mine are both mini lops. Let me know if you find a good fix. It’s too bad they don’t make face helmets for bunnies!

Agree, it doesn’t look serious. Looked like he didn’t Luna being picked up and the sudden movement of her going away, so he lashed out gently to be like “HEY! STOP THAT!” or perhaps to grab hold of her fur to stop the movement. Instead of moving her when she slid down, I would have just pet them both to keep it calm and perhaps backed up a bit on the couch to give Luna room to move if she wanted to back away. One being groomed (pet) and the other not at any point can also cause jealousy aggression, Powder will nip Stickers butt if he walks up while she’s being pet and I don’t pet him as well and they have been bonded for years. Equal treatment from you, let them sort themselves out in their dynamic and try to keep anything that they might fight over to a minimum.

When bunny bonding, you really have to just be an observer for the most part and only step in to separate them if something happens. And then, it’s best to put something BETWEEN them, instead of trying to move one away from the other. A good solid colander works well for putting between, or something small thin and metal (but not sharp) that they can’t bite through. Having the guy holding them have nothing to break them up with but his bare hands is dangerous if a fight does break out, he could pick up some new scars, bunny teeth are not sharp but boy can they bite hard.

I was gone a full week – they seem ok. I have actually been sticking something between them as suggested. Usually even a slim book does the trick. Going to keep trying!
