Last night, I tried to take Orion out of his cage and his hind foot got caught on the wire and he freaked out. When he finally got free, his right hind foot was sort of tilted out and he was flinching in pain, but he’s using the foot. I took him out carefully and turned him upside down to look at the foot, and the two outside toes are loose, I think they’re dislocated. I’m calling the vet a bit later this morning to see if either she wants to see him or if I can get away with just buying some metacam for him. I feel so bad, I should have just let him be instead of trying to take him out like that.

I would definitely have the vet do a physical exam. See if you can do a drop off – that is what I always do and the vet fits my rabbit in between appts. and surgeries.

He’s at the vet now, fingers crossed for good news!

Well I’m really glad I took him in-he has two broken metatarsals and is now in a little cast for 4 weeks. She said no jumping for two weeks but he can still come out for playtime. She said he was a good patient and is welcome back anytime (which will be when he gets the cast off and the ol’ snip snip). She didn’t give or prescribe any pain meds, and he’s acting normal, eating and drinking. I feel terrible for the pain I caused him but it was definitely a huge lesson. I’ll fix his cage door so he can’t get a foot caught again and I’ll handle him more carefully and properly!

He flopped for a nap so I think he’s feeling a lot better tonight

Poor little bun! But I’m sure he will be as good as new very soon.

Healing vibes to Orion. It does sound like he is feeling better.
