        Hello,

I just came back from a weekend away and left my rabbits at home with a housesitter. When I got back my new rabbit Pepper (who lives on her own for now until she’s neutered) seems to have left some massive clumps of hair in her hiding places. I know they weren’t there on Friday when I left so I am puzzled. There was one big ball of fluff in one place and a smaller one in another place she hides.

This is the big one, it was found in a clump like this. What confuses me is that she doesn’t seem to be malting and is a short haired rabbit. I don’t get this much fluff off my long haired rabbit when he’s fully malting! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, I’m very confused and haven’t found any stray hairs from this rabbit before (I adopted her around a month ago) xx

She could be molting, but if she is pulling out the fur and storing it, it is probably more along the lines of a false pregnancy. (Unless she has been in contact with any intact males, then it could be real) False pregnancies are common in unspayed females, you just have to wait it out and keep her as stress free as possible.

Interesting, thanks! She hasn’t had any contact with other rabbits since I got her, so guessing it’s a false one. Her last owner thought she was a boy but they didn’t have any other rabbits. Got her booked in for neutering in a few weeks as she’s a bit too young at the moment xx

Bunnies can do it through bars, so adjoining cages can result in pregnancy.
