Any one use a gravity water bowl with a filter to get fur & other stuff out of the water? If you use one without a filter, does the water constantly have stuff in it?

You mean something like a Drinkwell Ceramic Avalon Pet Fountain? Expensive, have to replace the foam filters and charcoal filters often, and battery operated. Think I’ll stick to using a normal ceramic bowl. There is fur stuck to the water bowl sometimes but I try to make a habbit in changing the water morning and night. Some models are more or less noisy, need to be plugged in so there’s the danger of the rabbit nibbling  the cables… since you’re paying for filters you’ll probably be reluctant to change the water often or try to clean the filters to prolong its lifespan.

This is what I use. The filters are fine, I get a pack of 3 for about $10.00 and I change them every few months. I’ve never had stuff in the bowl because of them. I don’t find the bowls do anything special, I just like that the bunnies can’t tip them and I don’t ever worry about them running out of water.

I was looking at some waterers like that petmate one on amazon last week. I plan to get one later, once someone is bonded. In the interim, Bonnie is using a food/water bowl combo where you screw a 2 litre bottle into it and flip it over. The bowl slot I found handy for keeping her pellet bowl in one spot. Picked it up from walmart for like $5. I don’t really have an issue with hair in the water though. Bonnie hasn’t really shed much, and the other 2 are using ceramic bowls. Clyde’s bowl gets refilled twice a day, and Bumpy at least every other day, but usually once a day.

I use the replendish too. LOVE it! Brittany is right, the filters are not bad, 10 for a pack of 3 and I replace the filter every few weeks. Albert has only tipped over his dish once in the 6 months I’ve had it. Easy to clean and I don’t have to worry if I am gone for the day that he is going to run out of water.

I should note that the filter only filters the water in the jug that goes into the bowl. Albert still gets fur and bits of hay in his water from time to time. That would happen with a normal bowl so it doesn’t bother me all that much. What was most important for me was being assured that he wouldn’t run dry while I was working.

I’ve been back and forth on bowl vs bottle. I hate washing the nozzle thing on bottles! I’m always afraid I’m not getting it clean, and then not getting it rinsed good. Kieko has a regular ceramic water bowl with a bottle as backup (still have a bottle to wash). Marlee and Moshi gave two bottles in their area. Marlee sheds so bad that I’m afraid a water bowl would always have a layer of fur on it. Moshi . . . I know he would spend the day trying to tip and throw a regular bowl. I can’t seem to find a gravity water bowl with a filter (to filter stuff out of the bowl) that doesn’t also gave a power cord fir him to chew on. May have to try the ones mentioned and see what happens. Thanks!
