Hi every one! Flash went to the vet today to check up on her incision from her spay about a month ago. She did 9 days of anti biotics and the vet said it looks good. But she did tell me to watch for abcess. Is that coon for rabbits after surgery? The only thing that worries me is that her appetite has reduced slightly with her pellets. Usually she has them eating in 24 hours but the past week or so it takes her over a day to finish them. Maybe I’m just being a worry wart!

Abscesses usually occur when the skin tries to heal too fast, and the top layer heals before the bottom layer, causing the “bubble” to fill with pus. If the insision is clean and appears to be healing well, you shouldn’t have to worry, just keep an eye on it like you have been.
The eating shouldn’t really have anything to do with abscesses forming. Is she eating her veggies and hay?

My Olivia did get a small abscess in the folds of skin after her spay. It wasn’t a big deal to treat, oral and topical antibiotics. I think this is pretty uncommon. Just make sure to check the area every day until completely healed for any lumps and bumps.
