All horse people! Do you find yourself riding western or english the most. I ride both about the same. I usually go on trail rides a lot or just race through the fields western or bareback.

I practice my showjumping every day too, that’s what I mainly do. Sometimes for fun I go out to the track and race some of my friends horses.

I’m an English girl, through and through. I started taking lessons over 20 years ago at an English stable and just stuck with that. I loved jumping. Riding Western now just feels so weird to me. Like I’m a total beginner at riding. Although, in High School I was on a Drill Team and rode Western. That was so much fun! Used to do a lot of trails too, always English. Some people would disagree but I find if I’m gonna be in the saddle for a 6 hour trail ride, I would much prefer my English saddle.

My horse is a very English horse. She’s a Morgan with a lot of Saddleseat blood so she’s a very quick and high stepper. Not a good match for Western.

I haven’t really ridden since I’ve been pregnant. I miss it.

I grew up riding English! My current horse is very much the hunter, so we do the hunter derbies…which at least is a little more interesting than the traditional hunter classes. Sometimes we have ditches and little banks or broken lines, etc. I can also carry more pace, which is nice! Occasionally, we have ventured into the jumper ring or eventing too.

I used to ride Western a bit on other horses. I boarded at a place with some ladies that asked me to ride their horses. They did western pleasure and their horses were lovely to ride! I know most of the cues were universal, but I always felt a little awkward in a western saddle. I think maybe their saddles were to big for me. BUT I just bought a used western saddle and if I can get it on my spooky horse, it might be fun to play around in!
