I’m not sure if this is a diet/care issue or behavioral. But today Luna has left a pile of cecals in her litter pan. (at least I think that is what they are, I’ve never actually seen any before.)

Luna is spayed, and is a little over 2… and I’m beginning to think very unsocialized.  I think she is big time stressed out. I feel terrible, I don’t think she likes being in “high traffic” areas. But there’s no where else to put her except in the basement. I’d like to socialize her… she does seem to like us well enough, but getting her to come out – is a huge production. We brush her, she seems to like to be petted, etc.  I’m worried we’ve really stressed her out somehow.

You could cover part of her cage with a sheet to lessen the visual stimulation. Excess cecals can come from too rich of a diet — has she been eating more pellets or treats lately? I have one bun that will leave cecals if he has more than a few bites of romaine, has too big of a salad, more than a couple small bites of treats, etc., and he’s one of those bunnies that doesn’t know the meaning of stress!

Her cage is 1/2 covered, and she also has a cardboard hidey-box.

You bring up 2 other things that are possibly really important that I didn’t know about.

            1) She seems a tad pudgy to me. Hard for me to tell really, but She is 6.5lbs and really not all that much larger is size than Chipper – who I know is healthy and weighs in at 3.75 lbs. She does not seem to like the pellets we offer. (Oxbow Adult Essentials.) The SPCA was giving her what we call “bunny charms” (food with the little treats in it. It looks like Lucky Charms for bunnies. lol)

            2) I’m also thinking is it possible the introduction of daily greens is too much. She LOVES lettuce from our organic garden here. We’ve been using it to try and get her to socialize. I wonder if it’s over kill on her tummy.

If she’s not used to veggies, then they should be introduced slowly. If you’ve been giving her a bunch of salad, that may be what’s going on. Back off a bit and see if that helps, then slowly increase back up to the 1-2 cups of salad a day. On the pellets, keep offering them. She’ll eventually eat them — she probably wants her bunny charms but don’t give in at this point! I believe the recommended amount of pellets is 1/8 cup per 5 lbs of bunny(?). The most important thing is to make sure she has unlimited fresh hay and water. Take a look at the diet info section on the BB website.

Yeah, sounds like her diet is a bit rich for her at the moment. I would cut back on the veggies a little and work on building her up. If she is overweight, then that can contribute to the problem too.

Perfect. Thank you all for the advice. I am starting to be really glad she sees the vet tomorrow! . Now I’m trying to dig in her litter pan like a crazy person. LOL No new cecals overnight it looks like though! I also think this might be on going. My 10 yr old said – she had poo like that in her cage thing at the SPCA too mom.
