I have a Netherland Dwarf named Theodore who is roughly 3 months old.

Last week I noticed he started peeing 6 inches in front of his litter box (he’s litter trained) and his urine was a normal yellow but also had some sandy looking residue. I didn’t think much of it because I figured it was just excess calcium.

This morning I woke up to a pure white residue that looked like a blob of paint. Can anyone tell me what this means?? And why he’s peeing so close to his litter box but not in it?

I wouldn’t normally think a rabbit this young would have bladder sludge and it’s probably not that. Urine does usually change colors when it oxidizes.

Again only speculation but usually at this age they do lose their litter training due to hormones and once they are neutered their litter skills get better.

So what do you think the white residue is?

One of mine has had “pee paint” before. In her case, the vet said she is more sensitive to calcium than my others and had us change her to timothy based pellets. With her veggies now, we have to avoid ones with high calcium content.

I imagine it is excess calcium. Perhaps your bun needs to be switched to a timothy-based pellet, like JR described.
