My rabbit makes this noise that sounds like oinking when I let him out of his cage every day. Does this mean he’s happy to see me, or does he not want me to touch him. Because I will enter the room and he will sit in the middle of his cage, then I put my hands in the cage and he sounds almost like a guinea pig’s oink. Is this bad?

Is he neutered? How old is he?
He’s probably hormonal and wants to mate.

Some rabbits are just more vocal than others. My rabbit grunts and oinks. I’ve had some that never make a peep.

My Bindi makes little oinking sounds sometimes when he’s super excited about food. He sounds like a little piggy.

One of my lops growls and it sounds like quiet stomach gurgles — thought that’s what it was until I realized she only does it when she’s angry at another bunny! Otherwise not a peep out of the lops.

Kieko, however, is extremely vocal. She oinks when she’s excited, grunts when she’s annoyed, and growls when she’s angry or scared. Not quiet noises — loud enough to hear clearly at least 4 or 5 feet away (especially the oinks)! Such big noises for such a little bunny!

I got my bun when he was roughly 12 weeks and I’ve had him for two months. I know it’s getting closer to the time to neuter him. Could that be why he’s making those sounds? Is it a territory thing?

Yeah its probably what I said in my other reply here.

If he keeps making them after, its like what everyone else said here. One of my bunnies is pretty quite, but my boy is very noisy like a piggy

Based on his age, i would also say that it is likely hormonal. It may continue after though if he just likes to make noise.

Merlin oinks when hes chowing into a big bowl of salad. It might be a happy noise!

My neutered male still does this…mostly when he is displeased at me….if I took to long to get up and feed him in the morning, he will do it as a open the cage. Or occasionally when I find him chewing on something I will push him away and he oinks at me haha

I read this thread in amazement! My Henry has never ever made a sound – he doesn’t even thump! Nothing!
If he ever made a sound I think it would scare me, ha ha ha! I’d love to hear Henry Oink! Sounds so cute….. he he he he!
