        My bunny went to the vet a few days ago because she was urinating way too much and her back end was stained. The vet couldn’t get a urine sample (her bladder was empty) so they prescribed an antibiotic baytril for 14 days which the vet said would clear up any infection if there was one. She said that it is safe to give even if there isn’t any uti/infection but I’m kinda iffy on that. I trust my vet and all but I have heard antibiotics cause gas and a bad appetite, would it really be safe to give even if she doesn’t have anything?

        The vet is going to call in 2 weeks to see how things are going and if it didn’t get any better, in which case it’s not a uti, then she might keep fluffy for a day for urine/blood tests. But I am pretty sure this is a uti the symptoms are a lot like it, and I’m hoping its nothing serious like bladder stones!

          Baytril is safe for rabbits. It is very commonly used.

            Ditto. And one that is quite effective for uti’s I once read.

            Do you see her lift her tail right up and the owe direct away from her body when she toilets?

            {{{Fluffy}}}

            How has her health generally been since her spay?

              Hey jerseygirl, I’ve seen her lift her tail and yes it does flow away from her body but then she just sits in it. It’s like she’s not even bothered to use the litter box… She uses it a bit then pees in the rest of her cage which I’ve had to clean 2x a day! D:

              Thanks for asking, her health has seemed okay otherwise than the urination issue. But one weird thing- I saw her hiccup for the first time yesterday and I freaked out cuz I thought it was a seizure! And she did it again today, is that normal? I’ve heard on occasion its normal but 2 days in a row??

                Yup, this is commonly prescribed. This is sort of the first step in figuring out what the issue is. If it works, then you assume that a UTI the issue. If not, you proceed with step two…

                Make sure you give the entire course of meds. I hope this works and she feels better!

                    Thanks, and is it supposed to be given at the exact same time everyday? Because my sis is the one who feeds it to her and she works so sometimes it’s given 1-3 hours later than it was the previous day. So sometimes we feed her at 12pm sometimes 1 or 2pm and same for the nightly doses

                      I think that is ideal however in the real world it is sometimes not possible so as long as it’s given twice a day as instructed (obviously not one does right after the other) then that should be fine.
