        Hello, everyone!

My rabbit, Boo, is always sleeping in his litter box. This wouldn’t be too big of a problem, but he has very little to no fur on his back feet because of the sores he had on them due to being raised in a filthy hutch before I adopted him. This causes him to get poo stuck to his feet and I am afraid he’ll get more sores if he keeps it up. I have to rinse his feet off every morning and night. No matter what I put on it to protect him, he rips it off of the litter box. I have tried a grate, screens, fleece, hay, you name it! I gave him fleece and a padded box to sleep in and he’d rather sleep in his litter box! I don’t know what to do.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to stop?

        Thanks!

I’m afraid the litter box is the most attractive bunny bed around. Leopold loves to lounge in the litter too. Have you tried putting hay over the litter? That might keep the poo off his feet. Otherwise, you could try a litter screen. That would make the litter box less inviting for sleeping in.

LB- I have tried hay, but he eats it so fast that by the time I get back from work it is all gone and he’s standing in the poo again. I have also used a screen, he rips it off.

Screens hurt little bunny feet. Maybe try a larger litterbox and some really absorbent soft litter like Carefresh, at least until his feet heal. Two of mine can fill their litterboxes with poop, but the Carefresh Natural seems to suck any moisture out pretty quickly. My other bun loves to lay in her litterbox — same thing with the Carefresh Natural absorbing moisture.

Bunny’s going to sleep where bunny’s comfortable — when you can eat, poop, and take a nap all in the same place, it’s like bunny heaven!

The vet said not to use the screen because his feet were so sore, so I took that out. I will have to try Carefresh again. Thanks!
I put more fleece in his area and he started to make a little bed out of it. He is spending less time in his box, so hopefully that will help!

Hope his feet heal fast! Nothing worse than sore feet!
