Are any of you BBers fish keepers as well?

I slaved away ALL DAY today cleaning sand and gravel for my twenty gallon goldfish tank (which was previously bare bottom) and draining/filling it one gallon at a time…. YIKES!  It’s safe to say I’M POOPED!  Castor seems to really be enjoying the change, though.  Her new filter will be here in two weeks and her new hood will be purchased in two weeks I’m hoping.  Here’s a video of her exploring the changes!  Please excuse the plants, the tank has a floor lamp aimed at it for lighting and I was trying to see if I could grow some out of the clippings from my other tank.  They are just thrown in there.

          Cool tank!
I used to be obsessed with fish (for 3 or 4 years) but I don’t really have time anymore with school and studying.
I had saltwater tanks, freshwater tanks, frog tanks, and turtle tanks (I still have those). I used to go to my friends house and watch her koi fish and feed them.
I would decorate the cages with different themes and buy different colored fish for the theme.
It was a sad story with my frogs. I bought a filter, and it broke and all got sucked up it
          Does your fish live alone?

We have tried our hand at fish. Needless to say, we suck lol. I even found a huge 55 gal tank at a yard sale with a stand and everything. We had a fish-expert friend who guided us along, but honestly, we failed with every batch we tried. Now we have a nice huge tank waiting for someone to move in. Someday.

BrunosMama, was the tank properly cycled before you added fish? I’ve been in the hobby for 17 years now (at almost 20, I’d say that’s impressive, haha!) and would be happy to guide you through the process. A 55 gallon tank is a WONDERFUL starter tank. It would make for a nice community, coldwater or cichlid tank.

Yep, we did the cycling thing. Our first batch (and possibly second) got Ick. We treated for it and whatnot, but it ended up killing everyone. Then we had the Tank Wars, where all the fish acted like gangs and had turf wars. Honestly, furry things seem easier than scaly things lol. But thank you for your offer.

55 is pushing it depending on what territorial species you had. Ich is very easily treated with heat. 88F for two weeks and it’s gone. How long was it cycled for?

Another fish keeper here! I have a 60 gallon salt water tank. It’s pretty basic right now, just a dottyback and cherub angel in it, along with a corral banded shrimp and a bunch of hermit crabs.

I also have three 5 gallon fresh water tanks, each with a betta. I love planting and “landscaping” those tanks!

I haven’t gone salty yet but I’m dying to! I really want a green spotted puffer or a dog face. (:

                      I love my bettas, I too, have 3. (:
