I am thinking of picking up some Oxbow Support Tablets. I have heard that rabbit vets highly recommend them. Here are the three I am thinking about getting and why.

Natural Science Digestive Support Hay Tablets: Mocha and Lulu have both had GI stasis within the last few months. Mocha actually just had a bit of has today.
Ebony’s previous owner said that she has had surgery to remove a blockage.

Natural Science Urinary Support Hay Tablets: Lulu has had a lot of urinary problems. Because of it, I can no longer feed her pellets. As soon as she eats even a small amount of pellets she gets a UTI.

Natural Science Multi-Vitamin Hay Tablets: As mentioned above, Lulu can not have pellets. My vet recommended just to take Mocha off of pellets because he is a bit chubby. Because Mocha and Lulu don’t eat pellets I figured Ebony doesn’t need them either. My vet really leans toward fresh veggies and hay for bunnies diets. Since they don’t get pellets a lot of people freak out and say my rabbits are lacking nutrients and vitamins and are going to get sick with out them. First of all, they have been pellet free for 2 years now with no health problems. I have only had problems when I tried to introduce them again. Anyways, I was thinking maybe I should give this tablet to just “guarantee” they are getting everything they need.

        Question:

        1. The package says to feed 2 tablets for rabbits over 4lbs. I feel like that is a lot and I would be running out of tablets every week almost! Do you think I could just do 1 a day or 2 every other day?

        2. Do you think the multi-vitamin would be beneficial to my rabbit? If so, would the calcium in this tablet be just as bad as the calcium in pellets?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let me know if you use these tablets!

I don’t think that there is any scientific proof that these help for anything however I don’t think they would hurt and most rabbits think they are treats so it’s not difficult to get them to take them.

I’m not certain about calcium content in these tablets…they don’t say on their website.

They now have a senior support might be a good choice as well.

I think bottom line go ahead and try them – I think as well that your dosage amount would be fine – these things are pretty large if you’ve never seen them.

Thanks! I think I will pick some up. Here is what the calcium is for the tablet. “Guaranteed Analysis
Per 1 Hay Tab Unless Otherwise Specified”: Calcium 0.30% min

The Guaranteed Analysis for the oxbow pellets is 35% min. So I’m guessing the tablets are to high in calcium although I honestly don’t understand the guaranteed analysis. I’m not sure my bunnies are considered senior as they are only 5… Maybe next year.

These tablets are really hard to break in half. I always had to cut them with scissors. I tried both the urinary and the digestive for a while on my 2 and didn’t notice any real difference after 2 or 3 bottles. Oxbow does make this cranberry-rosemary treat in a bag and that actually seemed to help Bella’s urinary trials for a bit. Good luck and let us know your results!

I use these for my guinea pigs/bunnies and although I have no idea if they actually do anything, they are a great treat, so why not.
I do believe the percentage of calcium in the tablet is about the same as that of the pellets, but since they are just small little tabs, it probably won’t cause an issue, but let us know how it goes.

I agree with everyone else here. I don’t think that they actually do anything much, but my bunnies love them as healthier treats.

Hmm. It’s odd that a vet said they really recommended them. Maybe they do help but because most buns don’t have serious ongoing problems it’s really hard to tell. I don’t know…

I’m not sure I will try the multi vitamin one with Lulu because of the calcium. I think I’ll just stick with the Urinary one and digestive one for her. I don’t wanna chance it.

My vet just prescribed the urinary tract ones to one of my bunnies, after finding a bit of sludge in his urine. No idea if they help, but he likes them.
