My husband and I are in the process of finding a new house, and we need to re-home our buns Baxter and Boo.  Although we love our buns, my sister is very allergic to them, and has not been able to visit our house in years, and she is also allergic to us, because we have their hair on us, no matter how hard we try to wear clothes right out of the laundry.

We want family to visit us in our new home – so have decided it’s best to find them a new loving home.

What is the best way to re-home beloved buns?

You can post ads online, post flyers in your neighborhood, or ask your local House Rabbit Society.
Never give a rabbit away for free (they will probably be used as snake food and dog fighting, no matter how friendly the “buyer seems”) ALWAYS charge a minimum fee of $50 per rabbit.

Thank you for your suggestions. We asked our local House rabbit society, but unfortunately they only assist with abandoned buns.

We were actually thinking of asking for 200, as they are both neutered, and would come with a custom 3 story condo.

I hate the idea of giving away or buns….but it’s so hard that my sister is so allergic to us.

I know how you feel. I had to give away my old dog (I was really little, but I still remember her.) She was a senior wirefox terrier and what I hated about that experience the most was that my dad gave her away to some “nice elder man” for free, without even going to his “house” or even really looking into him, or letting me have a say in it. He didn’t understand why I was and still am so upset, losing literally my best friend. She’s up in doggie heaven now, and I still miss her 12 years later.
Well, sorry for telling you my sob storry

The more money, the better. If someone really cares about those rabbits and means them well, they’ll spend that money on them. It’s also very convenient that you would give them their condo.

I agree with Mocha. I am so sorry you are being put in this situation and am taking comfort that you will only let them go to a good loving home. When the time comes, don’t be a stranger – make sure you pop back into BB and say hi! And if you get updates make sure you share them with us. They are both so beautiful! I hope I don’t make you more sad (that’s not what I want), but your gonna miss them terribly – knowing they are in a good home will make it that little bit easier…..
Yes, advertise them, and I agree – $200! No one will mishandle a pet/s they paid $200 for (I hope not!) and say you will give the cage for free (everyone loves a bargain, or feels like they are getting one). Good luck, and let us know how you go….. take care BnB’s mom.

PS – Maybe tell the new owner about us at BB and encourage them to become a member???? How wonderful would that be…… cheers.

You can also try FB and see if anyone in your network is interested in adopting them. That way you’d at least know who’ll be caring for them and can visit them (bonus!). Avoid Craigslist, as it can get pretty sketchy and people are mostly looking for a good deal.
