Hiya just wondering if anyone else had experienced this……

Honey are 4 year old rabbit has started leaving brown marks on the newspaper (but no poo). I have had sick bunnies it the past who have had diarrhoea and if i thought it was that she would have been rushed to the vets

She is doing loads of normal poo but every 12 hours or so we will notice a few brown marks. She is quite a lazy bunny and thought she might have not been eating her first poo straight away and then sitting in it which would leave the marks getting up later and then eating it.

She has a tiny amount of pellets in the morning and the same at night (at night time she gets cabbage aswell) She also has fresh hay twice a day.

This has been going on/off for a few years we took her to the vets ages ago and he had a feel and couldnt feel anything wrong.

We were told originally more hay less pellets. normal stuff. which we have done and keep doing she is now on less pellets than ever in her life and i havent given her any cabbage today or yesterday. But when i got home from work there was a bigger mess than normal again just marks but no poo on the paper but again loads in her litter tray.

As she is producing lots of normal poo (although lighter in colour since we reduced the pellets again a few weeks back) I am really confused at what it could be. With other rabbits it has always been if something is wrong all the poo is wrong. But this seems to just be affecting the poo she is supposed to eat. Im wandering if she is stuffing herself with hay as were giving her less pellets.

Has anybody else ever experienced this?

I have one bun who can’t tolerate romaine lettuce. Since reducing pellets hasn’t taken care of it and vet hasn’t found anything else, maybe try nixing the cabbage and try only green leaf lettuce (seems to be the “mildest” of the lettuces) and see if anything changes. The lighter colored poops are probably due to eating more hay which would be fine.

There are other things the soft poops could be but I’d give the green leaf lettuce a try.

My thought would be it might be a bit of cecals that had rubbed on the paper. It could, however, be caused by something in the diet. Cabbage isn’t really the best for bunnies, maybe eliminate that altogether and see if it helps? If changing around the diet doesn’t help, and the vet can’t find anything, I would guess it might just be how she is, since this has been going on for a while.
