I am reading a Kay Scarpetta crime novel “Book of the Dead” – almost 3/4’s of the way through.

I pulled out the next 2 Kay Scarpetta books I have for my next reads – “Port Mortuary”  and “Scarpetta” – there is a book in between called “The Scarpetta Factor” which I really should read in between those two to go in order, but I don’t have that one and since I’m trying to read my paperbacks or hard cover books I already have I am trying to not purchase that book on my Nook or Kindle – that’s hard to do if you are one of those people who like to read books “in order”.

I really like the Kay Scarpetta books – sometimes the characters are hard to like though, but I guess that’s what makes a book good too – you don’t have to like the characters to like the books but I guess it does help.

Not sure what I’ll pull out after my Scarpetta marathon.

Maybe my Donna Leon books which are set in Venice (and who doesn’t love Venice) and feature Commissario Guide Brunetti – I love this character.  I have quite a few of these books too so it would be a Brunetti marathon – funny both of these series feature Italians or characters of Italian descent…

What are you reading or planning on reading?

I’m working my way through the DC 52 comics right now. I’m going through Nightwing’s story arc first. =] I’ve been having trouble finding a new book series I really want to read. After burning my way through the Dragons of Pern series again for the gazillionith time I got really bored of a lot of the books that are out. =p

Right now I’m reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Even though the book is 7 yrs old it’s still relevant. A friend working on a MA in gastronomy is reading it as well, so that validates it for me lol. It basically just makes you more aware of where your food comes from and how it’s evolving. I also borrowed In Defense of Food by the same author, Michael Pollan. Yay for public libraries!

Sometimes I feel like I’m a boring person by reading all of these non-fiction books lol. Whenever people ask me what I’m reading they’re expecting a great discussion about mystery or sci-fi novels. Nope. I’m reading a book about how corn is in everything that we eat lol.

justwildbeat you made me laugh. I have that book as well, maybe both by Michael Pollan so it’s on my list of books to read as well. I have so many unread books and I always vow that I will do the library thing but I am so impulsive – which is why I now stay away from the book section of Target and never go in a bookstore.

Of course now I have a Nook and a Kindle thing so I can just get samples for those books I’m interested in – probably would be good to use as a reference for the library.

Justwildbeat I can’t remember the title but in high school in my AP Human Geography class (which was forever ago >.>) we watched a movie that had to do with the evolution of corn and just how much it is used in our everyday food. I was really shocked by just how much of a “filler” product it is.

The library is convenient for books that aren’t new releases or super popular. You’ll be on the wait list for several months since there are so many hold requests for them. It’s the trade off for getting books for free but I definitely understand the convenience of the e-readers.

@BBridgade: Yea it’s something most people don’t think about. Corn can be broken down into many different by products. Some of which are used in non-food items like cosmetics. The same can be said of soy beans. Not trying to scare anyone from eating anything. I like to soften the blow by calling these “fun facts” lol.

I’m reading “The White Queen” by Philippa Gregory. It’s been in my “To Read” pile since last Christmas. Need to get it read before I start watching the TV Mini Series based on the book.

The book I read before was called “The Fever Tree” by Jennifer McVeigh. Not my usual type of book, although still historical fiction. I enjoyed it.

What station is doing that LPT? I would love to watch that too. “The Fever Tree” sounds really good too.

Just Wild Beat you are so right.  Corn is in everything nowadays.

I just read Florida Heat by Rainy Kirkland    Really good book.  I want the one following it but it still isn’t out.   Her others are romance and I dont’ do romance unless is paranormal and even then I don’t care for them.

Also I finished an L.S. Sygnet book.  I love her books.  The first 2 of the series are free.  These are great books the rest are .99 for such great books I thought they would be more.

I like the Peter Decker series by Faye Kellerman too.

Oh and the Captive series by Erica Stevens.       I will be getting Sygnets series in a few days.  And some from the Captive series.  One at a time.  I may not like the 3rd so one at a time just to see if I will like the rest.

Then on to werecat ones.   I love werecat and werewolves the best from paranormal.

                          Sarita,
Did I ever share this link with you?
I absolutely love it. It lists authors’ series books in chronological order, and you can search by, say, a favorite detective’s name too.
I use it to start at the beginning, check off those I’ve read, make lists for going to the library (and borrowing on my Kindle) etc.

Make that alphabetical order, but it’s still easy to find them by date.

Justwildbeat – If you’re interested in why corn is in everything, there is a great documentary called King Corn. It was very interesting to watch.

Not reading anything at the moment. Unless you count manuals at work. I need to get my GIS book back out.  =\

I just finished reading The Shack (very spiritual book)
I moved on to a YA novel called If I Stay.
Before that I read The Giver quartet and re-read Anne of Green Gables. I’ve been reading a book every few days lately. I’m a reading machine! haha! Thank goodness for Summer break.

I am toward the end of a series called The Incarnations of Immortality by Peirs Anthony. The idea of the books is that the major aspects of life – Death, War, Time, Nature, Fate, Good and Evil – are represented by humans. They hold the office of whatever aspect they are chosen for and become immortal while in office. There are 8 books total. Each one focuses on one aspect, but their lives are intermingled with characters from the other books, weaving a story that builds to the climax and “big reveals” in the 7th book. (I’m on the 7th right now) The 8th book goes back to a little before the story starts. My sister referred me to these books – I think they’re amazing!

Sarita- It was originally only aired in UK but I think the station that aired it in North America is Starz. It’s already been aired and I was upset because I don’t have that channel. But I found the DVD of the series at Target!

Very cool link Pam, thanks! The only alphabetical one that really makes sense is the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton – she made it easy to figure out LOL – I think she is on W. Too bad they don’t have Donna Leon though :~(

Thanks LPT – I see I can get the disks on Netflix too. I’m not entirely sure if I have Starz network or not.
