I have a 3.5 year old mini rex rabbit who I just found out weighs 5 pounds. He weighed 4.4 for the longest time and now he gained some weight. Should I put him on a diet? Right now he eats lots of greens such as lettuce and herbs. He also gets a small amount 1/8 cup of pellets every day and I usually give him about an inch of banana as well.

My bunny did the same thing, and she’s 6 years old. I don’t think he needs a diet, just fewer banana treats. One a day is a lot of that fruit, so maybe switch to a healthy ground hay treat and save the fresh fruit for only a couple of times a week. Be sure to let him exercise and play. I always thought of 5 lbs. for a mini rex as normal. Mine was even heavier years ago, and he was fine.

I agree. If you do want to give him his treat every day, you can feed him less, say an 1/4 inch slice.
Does he really look fat, or just big?

If your bunny is not free roam, try letting him have some extra play time out of his cage.
