        Hi everyone,

Recently a father and his two daughters brought a start rabbit to my door thinking he was mine. After two weeks of trying to find his home no one claimed I made the decision to take him to the vet to get vaccinated, microchipped, nails trimmed and a general health check and he is now officially part of my furry family. He is booked to get neutered this coming Tuesday so he can be bonded into a trio with Ralph and Rosie. One of my biggest questions is how old is Rowan? I am not sure how to work out how old a rabbit is my vet didn’t know how to check his age. I have been told you have to check there teeth to work out there age is this true? I have taken a random guess that he is under one year old because it seems like he is still growing into his feet and body.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated

        Many thanks,

        Royal Rabbits

I don’t know much about this, but I hope I can help a little.

You can generally look at the color of the rabbits teeth. If they are white, it is a young rabbit, and if they are yellowish, then he is probably an older rabbit. This is not always accurate though.

How active is he? If he is still growing then he is probably young.

I think determining age is really just a guess. If a rabbit is already an adult, it is really difficult to determine how many years old they are.

Sounds like he’s probably a juvenile (less than a year). He may have been an unwanted Easter bunny, you see lots of surrendered and abandoned bunnies in the months following Easter when people realize they are actually work!

Easter was 2 months and a week ago. Assuming he was an Easter bunny (and 8 weeks old at the time), that would put him at just over 4 months old. They are still pretty small at 4 months, so you’ll see how much bigger he gets in the meantime.

Are his testicles visible? What breed is he and what does he weigh now?

A picture may also help, although it might just be that I want a photo.
From your description, I agree he is probably still young, and I agree with Sarita that he was most likely an “Easter bunny.” Your vet should be able to give you an estimate, but you will never know for sure.
Thank you for taking him in!
