My rule of gender neutral bunny names (put in place after Melody Elizabeth became Pond) has paid off. Fox, aka Fluffy Doom Rabbit, finally let me get a look at “his” underside. Yup, Fox is a girl. *sigh* so instead of a $75 neuter, I have to come up with $600 for a spay. Maybe next time, I should get a rabbit the opposite gender of what I want!
Gratuitous pics of said fluffy bun

Aw! A girl, congrats! Well at least now, you have what you wanted-one girl and one boy!
Shame about the cost of the spay though. She is adorable!

What a beautiful bunny.  Love her white feet.  I love grey bunnies cats horses dogs.  I think I just like grey.  All that fluffiness adorable.

600 for a spay 75 for a neuter.  Big difference

Highway robbery thats a lot.  Its 300-350 for neuter and spay here in florida.  Found a place for 100 after I called around.  Used them 2x and they are good. I got to watch they let the door open for me to go see.  That was nice of them.  I had asked if I could watch.

Oh my goodness she is such a beauty though how could you ever resist.  She is well worth it.

Yikes! I would seriously have to shop around for a better price on the spay if it were me! OMG.

Oh mossling “she” is just beautiful! I can see why you bought her home. But WOW! How do they justify the price difference between a neuter and a spay? I know a spay would be more expensive, but gee $75 v $600??? I know, easy to say – we don’t know your restrictions accessing other vets. I hope you can work something out to get a better deal? In any case, she is gorgeous – congratulations! Cheers.

And I am in love with her fuzzy self!!! I was 99% sure Licorice was a boy – but we picked gender neutral too just in case.

I can get a neuter for $75 because an experienced rabbit vet volunteers at the local spca spay/neuter clinic, but they only do neuters. I live in Alaska, so I don’t have a whole lot of options. I called every vet in town and was quoted between $575-$650. I really don’t know what I’m going to do.

Is there any way you could call some vets in neighboring towns? It may be a little bit of a drive, but bunnies can handle a few hours in the car and if it saves a few hundred, it’s still cheaper!

The only vets I have not called are 6 hours away in Fairbanks, which would require a 2 day trip. That would be at least a couple hundred in hotel and gas. Alaska is huge and sparsely populated. “Neighboring towns” aren’t really an option.

Have you talked to the vet at spca to see if he/she has any suggestions? Maybe a referral from that vet could get you a “professional courtesy” discount? Any discount for taking her to Pond’s vet? I got a discount from the vet who spayed Kieko because she used to work for our regular vet, and got a discount on Moshi’s neuter and Marlee’s spay because all three buns would be “regular patients”. Saved me about $400 total in discounts, plus they all waved the pre-op exam fees. Can’t hurt to ask.

I found a rabbit rescue not to far from here. They’re actually more of a livestock sanctuary, which is why it was so hard for me to find. They do have rabbits, though, and they spay/neuter prior to adoption. I’m going to contact them and explain the situation, maybe they’ll be able to look me up with their vet or…. something. We simply don’t have the room for 2 separate enclosures, I already feel Fox’s cage is too small, and it was only spouse to be for a few months. I’m afraid we’re going to have to take a serious chunk of of our savings, which is not something I should have to do for a routine procedure.

Woohoo! I heard back from the rabbit rescue, and after explaining the situation, they’ve agreed to hook me up with their vet so I can get Fox spayed! Yay! She’s scheduled for Aug 1!
