My little rabbit is only about 4 months old and she’s already climbing to the top of her pen (the tallest one I could find/afford!) so I know it’s just a matter of time before she learns to jump out. I want to put a cover on it, but I’m afraid that she will try to jump out and get stuck – she did that with the makeshift pen I built for her when I first brought her home, and it was so scary for both of us!! Anyway I’ve heard that a lot of people just clip a sheet or something over the top with clothespins, but is that really a safe solution? She has a secure cage for overnight, and there’s only one day a week that she’s left in the pen when no one else is home, but I really don’t want to come home one day and find her stuck or hurt!! Any advice would be so much appreciated!

The sheet won’t keep her in if she is really determined, it mainly acts as a deterrent. Sometimes if bunnies think the pen has a solid top, they won’t try to jump out. What I would do is try the sheet out for a while while you are home, and see if she still tries to escape. If she does, you may need to make something more solid-perhaps you could clip a large piece of cardboard or corrugated plastic over the top?
